Abstract

This invention is going to improve the conditions of lighting task areas with personal computers. The important innovation is represented by a wide and flat lamp carrier (2), which can also serve a shade to prevent reflections onto the computer screen, both from the very source of light (1), as well as the lighted surface of the task area. The lamp carrier is fixed to the computer screen stand, and placed in such an angle in relation to the task area surface, so that the user can, without any disturbances, view the screen and the task area with the keyboards as well. The light source is placed at the top of the lamp carrier, with the shade placed in relation to the user's eyes the lamp carrier can be fixed onto side supporters, which can then be used as shades for the computer screen as well. Computer loudspeakers can also be used as side supporters of the lamp carrier. The lamp carrier, along with its supporters and shades, can contain various compartments for filing minor equipment.

Description

LIGHT AND SHADE FOR A PC TASK AREA
DESCRIPTION
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to the area concerning the lighting of desks with personal computers
BACKGROUND ART
Working on personal computers represents a great effort to the eyes Therefore it is of great importance that the surrounding lighting is organized in the best possible way, as to respond to such specific needs as simultaneous looking into the screen and the keyboard, as well as into the papers on your desk The difference between the intensity of light on the screen and the desk are of additional effort to the eyes, so that the working effect decreases as well, and in the long run it also results in lasting eye impairments. It is also recommended to have the desk with the working area lighted separately, without lighting the whole room, especially when the PC is placed in a private home Additional effort to the eyes is caused by the reflection formed by light sources and lighted items on the desk
Strong indirect lighting of a whole room is usually used in working areas with more than one PC Such a solution to the problem of lighting uniformity of desks with PCs may be unsuitable for other people present in the room, and it can only be applied in rooms with a high ceiling A strong common light can be a disturbance when a PC is used in a private home, if the same room is shared by the user of the PC and other members of his family as well Different task area lights which are most commonly used for local lightings of desks have proven to be inadequate when desks are used for working on personal computers Although such lamps light the keyboard and the task area, they also create an unpleasant reflection on the screen of the computer These lamps can also disturb other users of the mutual room, e g by forming a reflection on the television set as is the case when the PC is used in a private home DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The solution of the problem is found in such a lamp whose lighting source is placed in a low position, in relation to the task area and has a wide shade which prevents the reflection of the computer screen not only in relation to the light source, but also to the light that is reflected from the desk As shown in figure 1, the important innovation concerning this invention is the carrier (2) of the lamp, which then becomes the shade between the light source (1) and the computer screen (3) as well The carrier (2) is fixed in the bottom of the screen (3), and placed at such an angle to the task area, that it enables the user to view the screen, and the desk with the keyboard, (4) without any disturbance The light source (1) is situated at the top of the carrier (2), with the shade in relation to the user and with side shades The surfaces of the shades are placed in such a way that they direct the light on the task area alone, so that the light does not disturb other people in the room The most adequate is an elongated shape of light source which can be the size of the keyboard The light source can, in that case, have a shape of a tube, and some small bulbs can be installed as well In any case, it is desirable that there is a possibility of light adjustment Since the distance between the light source and the task area is minimal, very little light power is needed The lamp carrier, which also functions as a shade between the task area and the screen, is made of opaque material of dark surface, and its width is adjusted to the width of the screen Thus not only is the reflection on the screen, due to the light source, prevented, but also the reflection of the objects on the desk which would otherwise appear on the screen The fixation of the lamp, its stability as to its tumbling down, can be solved in a number of different ways The carrier of the lamp can e g be fixed under the screen stand, as shown in figure 1, or on the trestle alone, as well as on the keyboard As shown in figure 2 the stability of the lamp against tumbling down is achieved by the shape of the trestle and a weight (6), so that the weight of the whole lamp is placed above the surface which is bound by the edges of the lamp support The solution shown in figure 3 fixes the carrier (2) on side supports which at the same time serve as side shades of the screen (3)
The main idea of the presented solution of light source and its carrier can be expanded, so that the lamp carrier and shades have different additional functions as well On the sides of the lamp carrier removable shades can be placed, which would prevent the reflection of different side sources of light on the screen, as for instance daylight appearing from the window Furthermore, loudspeakers can be placed on the sides of the carrier, so that the lamp carrier and the loudspeakers form a compact whole Loudspeakers can also serve as supporters of the lamp carrier, and in that case there is no need of carrier fixation on the screen, keyboard or the desk Side shades and loudspeakers can also have compartments of various kinds, which can hold magazines, notebooks, pen and ink etc The shade that protects the user from the light source can be used as a holder for various documents, memos and computer instructions, and/or as a stand for pen and ink and so on
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
FIG 1 is a side view of the desk with the screen and the keyboard of the PC, with the lamp fixed under the computer stand
FIG 2 is a detail of the lamp with the support on the desk
FIG 3 is a detail of the fixation of the lamp carrier on side supports
DESCRIPTION OF HOW THE INVENTION IS CONSTRUCTED
This invention can be easily constructed thanks to existing technologies The choice of material is of no importance as long as all carrier surfaces have a dark (matte) surface, in other words, that they do not create reflections Since a low power light source is being used, the lamp carrier can be made of plastic A plastic carrier provides a wider range of designing possibilities and a low price in mass production During the construction process there should be a tendency of constructing the lamp in many separable parts The length of the carrier could thus be adjusted to the needs of a single user, and if the side supports of the lamp carrier were separable, then the lamp would be easily packed and transported It is possible to construct the lamp carrier with adjustable length, as is the case with an accordion or a telescope It is desirable that the construction enables the fitting of the angle which the lamp carrier closes with the task area
THE USE OF THE INVENTION
This invention can be widely applied and used by all those people who work on a PC, at work, or at home If the product is constructed according to rules of protecting from electrical energy, it can be used as all other task area lamps, without any special instructions
