Abstract

The functionality of a removable faceplate on an entertainment system, such as a vehicular radio, is enhanced beyond its typical theft-prevention function. In a first embodiment, the removable faceplate contains a rendering system, such as an audio amplifier and headphones, for rendering content material. In this embodiment, the removable faceplate may contain a tuner device for receiving broadcast content material. In another embodiment, the removable faceplate contains a memory device that can be used to play back recorded content material, or to store-and-forward information or content material to or from the base unit. In another embodiment, the faceplate contains a 'buy' switch that can be used to create a purchase request for an item that is associated with the received broadcast content material, and the memory device is used to store-and-forward this purchase request to a vendor via a base station.
