Abstract

A particulate composition for use as, for example, a chemical attractant, a number of volatile components supported on a solid matrix, the release of the volatile components being controlled by the matrix. The solid matrix can comprise a carbohydrate such as wood pulp or cellulose, or a ceramic. Typical chemicals for use in the composition are ethyl isothiocyanate, hexanal and diallylsulphide, which can be used together in the same composition. The solid matrix can be formed into particles having a size suitable for a variety of uses, typical sizes being between 1 and 5 mm and greater than 10 mm. The compositions disclosed have a solid matrix to liquid ratio of from 1 to 3 g/ml. The invention includes an apparatus to contain particulate composition which controllably releases the volatile components to the atmosphere. It further includes a closure apparatus to seal a container and facilitate the release of the volatile components.
