Abstract

The invention provides that in order to optically image a sample (140) in three-dimensions, the entire sample (140) is uniformly illuminated, a conventional first partial image is recorded, and the sample (140) is subjected to a laterally structured illumination in a focal plane. The illumination of the individual points of the focal plane is varied according to predetermined temporal sequences. A second partial image is recorded by detecting the light emitted by the object points that are not illuminated in the confocal plane. An image of the probe (140) that is spatially resolved in three-dimensions is established from the first and second partial images. The invention also relates to optical imaging systems used for carrying out this imaging method.
