Abstract

The present invention relates to melanin synthesis inhibition compound containing gomisin N or η- schizandrin and composition containing the same. The composition of the present invention has a superb melanin synthesis inhibition effect without showing cytotoxicity. Also the present invention relates to a schizandra extract that has a excellent melanin synthesis inhibition effect without showing cytotoxicity.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS[received by the International Bureau on 25 May 2001 (25.05.01); new claims 6-8 added; remaining claims unchanged (1 page)]
1. A melanin synthesis inhibition composition containing gomisin N or γ-shizandrin.
2. The composition according to claim 1 , wherein said composition is a skin whitener.
3. The composition according to claim 2, wherein said composition is a cosmetic.
4. The composition according to claim 2, wherein said composition is a pharmaceutical skin whitener.
5. The composition according to claim 2, wherein said composition is a food coloration inhibitor.
6. The composition according to claim 1 , wherein said composition is derived from Schizandra.
7. A composition having a skin whitening effect, comprising a Shizandra extract and containing an amount of gomisin N sufficient to produce such effect.
8. A composition containing gomisin N, produced by the steps comprising: preparing fractions from a Schizandra extract by a column chromatography and recovering a fraction containing gomisin N from the above-obtained
fractions.
