Abstract

The invention relates to a method for cleaning water surfaces and wastewater from petroleum, petroleum components and petroleum by-products emulsified or dissolved in the wastewater by passing the wastewater through a layer of absorbing particles comprising partly vulcanized rubber, wherein the partially vulcanized rubber, obtained by partial vulcanization, characterized by having a limited swelling capacity of 300-2000 % its own weight when saturated in diesel fuel.
