Abstract

The invention relates to electric insulation techniques and in particular to electrically insulating sheaths that have shielding properties and are resistant to temperature and flames. The invention makes it possible to produce a sheath with shielding and fire resisting properties and which is light and elastic. Such a sheath is electrically insulating and has improved electric insulation, mechanic and thermal properties. It is resistant to open fire, to high temperatures of up to 600 °C and to acids, hydrocarbons, organic solvents and microbiological factors. According to the invention, said insulating sheath consists of several threads having different compositions, whereby said threads are twisted two by two. One thread is made of aramide fibers and is used as an armature while the other is a metal wire and acts as a shielding element. A metal wire, with or without a coating, can be used as a shielding element. The armature may be a braid comprising at least two twisted aramide threads or contain several pairs of aramide threads and a metal wire twisted two by two, whereby said pairs are braided to form a tape or a web.
