Abstract

A method and a system for providing product information, wherein an electronic communication medium (N) supplies data (P1) about a situation which may involve problems for some people, such as data about an expected or measured quantity of daylight, and wherein the same electronic communication medium (N) supplies information related to the data (P1) about the problems (and/or refers to information (P2)) about a product for alleviation the problems, such as problems related to a reduced quantity of daylight. The electronic communication medium (N) is preferably the Internet, but may be alternatively a telephone network.

Description

Method and system for providing product information
The invention relates to a method and a system for providing product information.
It is known that there are persons who do not feel very energetic in the autumn or winter season. It has been found that this washed-out feeling is related to the reduced quantity of daylight on an autumn or winter day, as compared with the quantity of daylight on a summer day. It has also been found that this washed-out feeling can be alleviated by regularly exposing persons who are sensitive to this reduction of the quantity of daylight to a bright light source. The applicant markets such bright light sources by the name of "Bright Light Energy", intended to combat the daylight quantity-related lack of energy.
It is an object of the invention to provide product information in a manner adapted to the nature of the product. To this end, the invention provides methods and systems for providing product information as defined in the independent claims. The dependent claims define advantageous embodiments.
In summary, an aspect of the invention relates to a method and a system for providing product information, in which an electronic communication medium supplies data about a situation which may involve problems for some people, such as data about an expected or measured quantity of daylight, and in which the same electronic communication medium supplies information (and/or refers to information) related to the data about the problems on a product for alleviating these problems such as problems related to a reduced quantity of daylight. The electronic communication medium is preferably the Internet, but may be alternatively a telephone network.
These and other aspects of the invention are apparent from and will be elucidated with reference to the embodiments described hereinafter.
In the drawing:
The Figure illustrates a method and a system according to the invention. The drawing shows a daylight sensor S. A quantity of daylight measured by means of the daylight sensor S is stored in a file (Internet page) PI on a data carrier DCl. A data carrier DC2 comprises a file (Internet page) P2 with product information. Likewise as a computer PC, the data carriers DCl and DC2 are connected to a communication network (the Internet) N.
The Internet has been found to be an excellent and attractive means for supplying various fields of data and information. Meteorological pages on the Internet appear to be very popular. A first embodiment of the invention is also based on the recognition that meteorological Internet pages are eminently suitable for supplying data about a measured or expected quantity of daylight in the form of a number and/or a symbol (pictogram), preferably on a background constituted by a national or regional map. The same Internet page PI may also comprise information about a product for alleviating the detrimental effects of a relatively small quantity of daylight and/or a reference (hyperlink) to a second Internet page P2 comprising (extra) information about the product. An example of a meteorological Internet page is http://www.meteoconsult.nl/, and an example of an Internet page comprising information about the product is http://www.brightlight.philips.nl/.
Conversely, it is very favorable to refer to a meteorological Internet page PI on an Internet page P2 comprising information about a product for alleviating problems related to a reduced quantity of daylight.
In practice, the measured quantity of daylight will be determined by appropriate technical means (daylight sensor S), and the expected quantity of daylight will be based on the measured quantity of daylight.
Weather reports may also be received via telephones, for example, as a text on the screen of a portable telephone, or the user can also listen to these weather reports when he dials a special number. These weather reports may also simply include information about the product by stating or referring to a (free) telephone number by means of which (extra) information about the product can be obtained.
It is to be noted that the embodiments described above illustrate rather than limit the invention. Those skilled in the art will be able to provide many alternative embodiments within the protective scope defined by the contents of the claims. For example, a meteorological Internet page stating an expected quantity of rain may refer to an Internet page about umbrellas or water pumps. The information about the product may be made dependent on the measured or expected quantity of daylight. The use of the verb "to comprise" and its conjugations does not exclude elements or steps other than those stated in a claim. The use of the article "a" or "an" preceding a step or element does not exclude the presence of a plurality of such a step or element.
