Abstract

L'invention concerne un système qui permet un accès à multiples paliers à un réseau tel qu'Internet. Un premier dispositif tel qu'un appareil ou un boîtier présentant un premier niveau inférieur de fonctionnalité peut avoir accès au réseau et reçoit un contenu de ce réseau. Lorsqu'il est déterminé que le premier dispositif peut traiter le contenu, un utilisateur est avisé de l'événement, et si nécessaire, un deuxième dispositif tel qu'un système informatique complet présentant un deuxième niveau supérieur de fonctionnalité est activé pour traiter le contenu. L'application requise pour traiter le contenu est lancée sur le deuxième dispositif, et le contenu est traité par l'application lancée. Lorsque le deuxième dispositif traite le contenu, le premier dispositif peut servir de mandataire entre les dispositifs d'E/S et le deuxième dispositif, ce qui permet à un utilisateur de contrôler le deuxième dispositif par l'intermédiaire du premier dispositif. Les premier et deuxième dispositifs peuvent être couplés par une connexion directe comme une connexion de bus série universel, ou les dispositifs peuvent être couplés par un réseau familial tel qu'un réseau conforme à la norme HomePNA. La sortie du deuxième dispositif peut être fournie au premier dispositif et visualisée sur un affichage couplé au premier dispositif.
