  • the invention therefore provides a container for a cleansing, deodorising and/or water treatment composition for use m a toilet bowl comprising a housing defining a chamber for receiving the composition, said housing being provided with outlets for the dispensing of the water treatment composition and hanging means for removably hanging the container from the rim of a toilet bowl such that part of the composition is dispensed when the toilet is flushed, wherein said hanging means comprises a flexible strip attached at one end thereof to the housing, at least a portion of one side of which is provided with an adhesive. Preferably in a storage position the flexible strip is wrapped around and removably adhered to the container housing sealing said outlets.

  • the container 10 consists of two main component parts, a plastic housing 11, in which is stored a water soluble water treatment composition in solid, gel or liquid form, and an adhesive strip 12.
  • the housing 11 is preferably made of a plastic material by thermoformmg, injection moulding or other suitable methods. It defines a chamber for receiving the composition before it is dispensed through apertures 13 in the housing walls, for example sidewalls.
  • These apertures may be of any appropriate shape and configuration for the controlled dispensing of the composition and are usually located on the rear, bottom and front of the housing 11, similar to those in prior art containers.
  • the apertures also allow for fragrancmg of the bowl environment even when the toilet is not flushed.
  • the strip 12 is a substantially rectangular strip of a flexible material such as paper or a plastic such as PPIPE, PET or PVC . It is attached to the housing 11 by appropriate means, such as welding, gluing or otherwise adhering it along one of its shorter edges 14 to the housing 11. Where an adhesive is used, it may be a permanent, temporary, relocatable or "one shot" type of adhesive. Attached to the opposing shorter edge 15 is a flap, for example, of a cardboard or plastic material.
  • the strip 12 is preferably coated on one side with a layer of adhesive, although the adhesive may be applied to a more limited area.
  • the length of the strip 12 is preferably at least as long as the circumference of the container housing 11.
  • the flexible adhesive strip 12 is wrapped around and the housing 11 (see Fig. 1) such that the adhesive layer or regions are in contact with the housing 11 whereby the strip 12 covers and seals the apertures 13. It may be wrapped around once, or more times, if a longer strip 12 is used.
  • the adhesive strip 12 is unpeeled from the housing 11 (see Fig. 2 and 3) .
  • the flap 16 provides a convenient handle to grasp during this procedure and prevent the strip 12 from sticking to the user's fingers.
  • the housing 11 depends from the strip 12.
  • the user can locate the housing 11 under the rim 18 of the toilet bowl 19 with the adhesive side of the strip 12 facing the rim 18 as shown in Figs. 4 and 5.
  • the adhesive used must be releasable to enable the container 10 to be removed from the toilet bowl 19 when exhausted, this means that the container 10 is also relocatable if the container is not initially positioned correctly.
  • the strip 12 should preferably be long enough so that it adheres to the inner surface, the top edge and a portion of the outer m ⁇ JTE SHEET (RULE 26) surface of the toilet bowl rim 18.
  • the flap 16 remains loose and can subsequently be used as a convenient handle to grasp and pull the strip 12 away from the rim 18 to remove the container 10 from the toilet bowl 19.
  • the flap 16 is preferably moulded from the same plastic material as the housing 11 and may be integrally formed therewith.
  • One, or preferably a plurality of frangible nodes 21 are provided in the area joining the housing 11 and flap 16 either as a path of the integral flap 16 and housing 11 or by adhesive welts or plastic welds when the flap 16 is attached to the housing 11 subsequent to manufacture.
  • the flap 16 can be broken away from the main housing 11 by exerting a small amount of force to fracture the frangible nodes 21.
  • the adhesive strip 12 has a number of functions. Firstly, it seals the housing 11 for transport and storage. Secondly, it represents the means to hang the container 10 on the toilet bowl rim 18. It provides the advantages that it is adjustable to the rim shape and it is relocatable. It may also be washable. Finally it also provides a communication surface, e.g. for the application of a trade mark, technical or legal information.
  • the flap 16 additionally provides a suitable location for an aperture 20 of the type required to hang the product on a display hook m a sales environment .
  • the container can be made from just two parts, the combined housing 11 and flap 16 as one part and the flexible strip 12 as a second part which makes it easy to manufacture using well known techniques, such as thermoformmg, welding, cutting, injection moulding and labelling.
  • the use of the flexible strip 12 eliminates the need for secondary packaging, which means there is a cost reduction over the current containers.
  • the lack of secondary packaging also means that the product does not need additional handling to remove the secondary packaging and there is a reduction in the amount of packaging waste. The product therefore is highly attractive m terms of cost and ease of manufacturing.

Abstract

La présente invention concerne des améliorations apportées à des contenants ou concernant des contenants, et en particulier, à des contenants destinés à contenir des produits de nettoyage et des produits désodorisants placés sous le bord d'une cuvette de W.C. Le contenant comprend, de préférence, un récipient destiné à recevoir une composition de traitement de l'eau s'utilisant dans une cuvette de W.C., qui comprend un boîtier définissant une chambre destinée à recevoir ladite composition, ainsi que des moyens de suspension permettant de suspendre de façon non permanente le contenant au bord d'une cuvette des W.C. Lesdits moyens de suspension comprennent une bande flexible présentant une couche d'adhésif sur au moins une partie d'une face de la bande. Celle-ci est fixée solidement au boîtier à une extrémité dudit boîtier.
