Abstract
The invention relates to a method for treating a deformed cartilage independently of the location thereof through local heating by electromagnetic radiation, together with precision controlling of physicochemical and geometrical parameters of the cartilage. According to the invention, the deformed cartilage is given a desired shape by means of external mechanical action and then submitted to thermal action through electromagnetic radiation in a frequency band comprised between 0.2 micrometers and 10 mm, whereby such a treatment is applied until a desired effect of relaxation of mechanical stress in the internal volume of cartilage is obtained. The tool to implement the inventive method consists of two mobile branches of which at least one comprises a through slit which is used to provide the energy of electromagnetic radiation in the area of the deformed cartilage. The tool is fitted with a mechanism for spacing the branches apart and moving the electromagnetic ray with respect to the area of the deformed cartilage.
