Abstract

Systems and methods for suspending packet switched communications in a user terminal that is configured to operate in both a circuit switched network and a packet switched network. The packet switched network is notified via an interface between the packet switched network and the circuit switched network to suspend communications to a user terminal. This may be accomplished by notifying a gateway node in the circuit switched network that the user terminal is no longer registered in the packet switched network, and by then relaying this information from the gateway node to a control node of the packet switched network via the interface between the networks. The suspend message may be sent in response to the circuit switch network receiving a call origination message from the user terminal, or, alternatively, in response to the circuit switch network receiving an incoming call to the user terminal. In this latter situation, the user terminal may be notified of the incoming call via a page, which the user terminal then responds to via a page response that is sent to the circuit switched network.
