Abstract

A conveyor belt cleaner has a series of flexible members (12) made from rubber, on a drum (10). This assembly is mounted near the right head pulley shaft (14) and below it. The drum is rotated and the flexible members create a beating action on the belt.

Description

CONVEYOR BELT SCRAPER
TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to conveyor belt scrapers
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Conventional conveyor belt scrapers comprise stationary members which are located under or near the belt head pulley, the principle of operation being to force or press a stationary sharp member against the underside of the belt for the purposes of scraping the dirt off. The efficiency of these scrapers depends on the material being conveyed, the sharpness of the edge of the scraper and certain other factors
It is an object of the present invention to increase the efficiency of the scraper and also to prolong its life in preserving the edge thereof against difficult-to-remove detritus
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
According to the invention a conveyor belt cleaner comprises a series of transverse flexible elements adapted to be moved to create a beating action on the underside of a conveyor belt., the flexible elements being located before the scraper element
In one form of the invention the flexible elements are mounted on a drum which extends across the underside of the belt
The drum is preferably driven by the existing head pulley and its speed may be chosen or varied by means of suitable gearing. The flexible elements may extend across the complete width of the belt and the number of members and their degree of flexibility may be chosen according to the type of product being conveyed by the belt
It will appreciated that this arrangement can provide primary, secondary and tertiary scraping in one. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
An embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying sketches . in which
Figure 1 is a front view of the beater assembly according to the invention.: Figure 2 is a cross sectional view through the line 2-2 of Figure 1 ; and Figure 3 is a side view of the beater assembly and scraper in position.
DESCRIPTION OF MODES OF THE INVENTION
In Figures 1 and 2 a beater assembly is shown which comprises a drum or tube 10 which carries a series of flexible members 12 which may be made from rubber or rubber-like material
The assembly is mounted below and near the head pulley shaft 14 and the shaft of the assembly is driven thereby through a belt or chain 16 which may be passed over a suitable set of gears , pulleys or the like (not shown) to achieve the desired rate of rotation of the drum. The shaft 20 of the drum is mounted in bearings 18.

Claims

CLAIMS:
1. A conveyor belt cleaner comprising a series of transverse flexible elements characterised in that it is adapted to be moved to create a beating action on the underside of a conveyor belt., the flexible elements being located before the scraper clement
2. The conveyor belt according to claim 1 characterised in that the flexible elements are mounted on a drum which extends across the underside of the belt
3. The conveyor belt according to claim 2 characterised in that the drum is driven by the existing head pulley and its speed.
4. The conveyor belt according to any of the above claims characterised in that the flexible elements extend across the complete width of the belt and the number of members and their degree of flexibility is chosen according to the type of product being conveyed by the belt.
5. A conveyor belt substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
