Abstract

A method for designing a foundry sand compaction system to operate at a frequency below the calculated resonant frequency. The method includes generating and solving a mathematical dynamic systems matrix representative of the sand compaction system for the calculated resonant frequency of the sand compaction system, and thereafter modifying the characteristic properties of the sand compaction system in order to increase the calculated resonant frequency sufficiently above the operational frequency of the sand compaction system. Further, a sand compaction apparatus geometrically designed to operate at a frequency substantially below the calculated resonant frequency of the compaction apparatus, as determined by the roots of the determinant of a dynamic systems matrix representative of the compaction apparatus.
