Abstract

The method relates to synchronization methods for spread spectrum receivers, used for code acquisition in CDMA-systems. The invention provides improved synchronization methods based on the use of differential correlation. The differential correlation matrix, obtained by delaying the signal by n symbols, consists only the information of the desired user, while uncorrelating inteferers and noise are suppressed out. Delay estimats are obtained by differentially coherent eigenanalysis of the differential correlatin matrix from the MUSIC type approach. The synchonization methods may also be used in GPS, Global Positioning System, mobile stations of cellular telecommunication systems and terminals of wireless data communication networks.
