- a second terminal of the connector 20 is electrically connected to the tube 16.
- the circuit diagram used is as shown in the drawings. Basically, the existing diagram used for conventional antennas is used and comprises a transmitter 24 and/or a receiver connected for radio frequency current to flow to the antenna 10 through a tuning and matching network 26 having two outputs, one connected to the antenna 10.
- the network 26 includes two variable capacitors 28, 30 which are adjustable to tune and match to different lengths of antenna 10. Direct current flows from the transmitter 24 through the other output of the network to earth.
- the positive terminal of the conductor 20 is connected to the transmitter 24 through an inductor 32 to allow direct current 33 to flow from the positive terminal of the battery power pack 14 to the transmitter 24.
- the negative terminal of the conductor 20 is connected to one output of the network 26 with a connection being made between both outputs through an inductor 36.
- the inductors 32, 36 are arranged to have a high impedance at the transmitting/receiving frequency, such that a radio frequency current 35 is injected into the tube 16 of the antenna 10
- a radio frequency output 37 of the transmitter 24 is connected to the second terminal of the connector 20 and therefore to the tube 16
- the antenna 10 is extended by a wire or rod 38
- This arrangement can be used when the tube is too short on its own to work efficiently as an antenna which would be the case when a longer wavelength is being transmitted
- the length of the wire or rod can be designed such that the total length of the antenna 10 is a quarter wavelength or other resonant length
