Abstract

Cette invention se rapporte aux matériaux et revêtements servant à protéger divers objets contre de fortes actions thermiques (surchauffe indésirable, flammes, court-circuitage, rayonnements divers, etc.) qui peuvent se traduire par des incendies ou par une défaillance d'instruments, d'équipements, etc. Cette invention a pour but de créer des revêtements de protection thermique qui assurent un accroissement sensible de la durée de protection thermique des matériaux en cas de fortes actions thermiques. On utilise à cette fin un matériau-revêtement composite et de protection thermique spécial se composant d'une matrice poreuse qui comprend des pores ouverts contenant une substance hygroscopique. La matrice poreuse se compose d'oxydes inorganiques, de sorbants carbonés, de polymères, de sorbants d'origine naturelle, de métaux poreux, de composites poreux, ou de mélanges de ceux-ci, qui possèdent des pores ouverts dont la taille varie de 5 à 100 nm. La substance hygroscopique contenue dans les pores consiste en des sels inorganiques, ou en des mélanges ou des solutions de ces sels, dont la teneur en humidité est supérieure à 6 molécules d'eau par ion métallique, ceci dans des conditions où la température ambiante varie de -10 à +50° C, où la pression varie de 700 à 1500 kPa et où l'humidité de l'air est supérieure à 15 %. Les sels inorganiques peuvent consister en des halogénures, des nitrates et des sulfates de métaux alcalins et alcalino-terreux. Ce matériau peut être mis en forme sous presse ou intégré à une autre matrice à l'aide d'un liant.
