Abstract

A method and apparatus for melt blowing thermoplastic fibers is disclosed. The molten polymer is extruded through a die head (120) into an array of removable nozzles (130). The nozzles (130) are inserted through nozzle holes in the back end of a strand plate (140) and pass through an air chamber defined by the interior of the strand plate (140). The back end of the strand plate (140) includes recessed areas for receiving a shoulder back end of each nozzle (130). A desired spatial configuration of the nozzles (130) is maintained with alignment strands placed between the rows and columns of the nozzles (130). A cover plate (151) with orifices (150) is placed over the nozzles (130) such that an annulus is formed around the nozzles (130) for uniform discharge of hot air.
