Description
ARM HOLDER USED IN A TABLE
Technical Field
The present invention relates to an arm holder used in a table, and more particularly, to an arm holder used in a table on which a user is able to rest his arms comfortably, thereby releasing pains in his forearms and giving the user a feeling of comfort, and further preventing a kink in the shoulder or the neck. Background Art Figures 7 and 8 are partial enlarged front views of typical tables. As seen therein, tables are formed with a upper plate 101 having a plane surface and a plurality of support legs 103 supporting the upper plate 101 , by coupling to the bottom part of the upper plate 101.
A lateral side of the upper plate 101 is perpendicular to the upper plate 101 or is rounded.
Where a user is working for a long time with resting his arms on a table, the user's forearms have been pressed by the upper edge part of the upper plate 101 , giving rise to pains, because of the perpendicular lateral side
121 of the upper plate 101. As time goes by, pains or fatigues are accumulated and such symptoms as a kink in the shoulder are developed.
The table in which lateral side 121 of the upper plate 101 thereof is rounded provides the user with an extension supporting the user's forearms, but which is not wide enough to make the user comfortable. Furthermore, this table needs an additional process for making the lateral side 121 round. Disclosure of Invention
Considering the above-mentioned shortcomings, it is the object of the
present invention to provide an arm holder used in a table on which a user is able to rest his arms comfortably, thereby releasing pains in his forearms and giving the user a feeling of comfort, and further preventing a kink in the shoulder or the neck. To accomplish the above object, there is provided an arm holder used in a table, comprising: a upper plate forming the upper part of a table; and support legs having a slope with a downward inclination from the upper plate.
Preferably, an adhesive plate member is inserted between the bottom part of said upper plate and the front side of the table.
Preferably, the arm holder used in a table further comprises a support part contacting the lateral side of said table, which is extended vertically from the portion on which said lateral side and said arm holder meet. It is effective to insert an adhesive plate member between said support part and the lateral side of said table.
Desirably, the arm holder of said table is molded by either polycarbonate or ABS resin, and is coated to protect the outer surface thereof from scratch.
Preferably, it is effective to have an inclination of the slope of said arm holder in the range of 6° to 15°, and the inclination of 9° is the most effective. Brief Description of Drawings

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a table according to a first embodiment and a second embodiment of the present invention. Referring to Figure 1 , a table according to the present invention, like a conventional table, is formed with a upper plate 1 having a plane surface with which a user's forearms are in direct contact, and a plurality of support legs 3 supporting the upper plate 1 , by coupling to the bottom part of the upper plate 1. An arm holder 7 is installed on the front side 1 a of the upper plate 1.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of a table 1 according to the first embodiment of the present invention, taken along the line ll-ll of Figure 1 , and
Figure 3 is a sectional view of a table 1 according to the second embodiment
of the present invention, taken along the line ll-ll of Figure 1. The arm holder 7 is comprised of a front plate part 9 covering a portion of a front side 1 a of the upper plate 1 , which is in contact with the front side 1a, and a forearm support part 11 having a slope with a downward inclination from the front plate part 9, which is formed integrally with the front plate part 9.
Between the front plate part 9 and the front side 1a of said upper plate 1 is inserted an adhesive plate member 15 for fixing the front plate part 9 to the front side 1a in order to prevent the front plate part 9 from being moved on the front side 1 a. A support part 23 may be formed under the forearm support part 11 , which supports the support part 11 by being in contact with the lateral side 1 b of the upper plate 1. The support part 23 may be formed integrally with the front plate part 9 and the forearm support part 11 or may be made of different materials from those of the front plate part 9 and the support part 11 and be then assembled with them.
The support part 23 can be fixed to the lateral side 1 b of the upper plate 1 by inserting an adhesive plate member therebetween.
By inserting an adhesive plate member under the arm holder on the upper plate of a table, the forearm support part of the arm holder can be steadfastly fixed. The user can comfortably rest his arms on the front plate part 9.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of an arm holder and a table in an assembled state, according to a third embodiment of the present invention, and Figure 5 is a partial enlarged sectional view of the table, taken along the line V-V of Figure 4. Parts identical to those shown in the first and the second embodiments are not described repeatedly, and are referred to with
the same reference numerals.
Referring to Figures 4 and 5, the arm holder 7 is comprised of a front plate part 9 in contact with the front side of the upper plate 1 , and a forearm support part 11 extended with a downward inclination from the front plate part 9 over an edge of the upper plate 1. To protect the front plate part 9 and the forearm support part 11 from scratch or external impact, the outer surfaces thereof are UV ray-coated.
UV ray-coating is performed in the process of covering the outer surface of an article with a UV ray-coat by a predetermined thickness and applying ultraviolet rays thereto to harden the UV ray-coat. The outer surface thereof with UV ray-coating is excellent in hardness and resistance-abrasion. Desirably, the front plate part 9 is made of polycarbornate or ABS resin. To steadfastly fix the front plate part 9 to the upper plate 1 , an adhesive plate member 15 is inserted between the front plate part 9 and the front side 1 a of the upper plate 1.
By this construction, the front plate part 9 is fixed to the front side 1 a of the upper plate 1 , is made of polycarbonate, and has a UV ray-coated layer
13 to protect the outer surface thereof from scratch. The front plate part 9 having the UV ray-coated layer 13 can replace a plate glass conventionally used to protect the outer surface of a table from damages or scratches, and it is unlikely to break because it is strong enough against outer impacts, unlike the plate glass.
The user can rest his forearms comfortably on the forearm support part 11 extended with a downward inclination from an end part of the front plate part 9. Thus, even if the user is working with a computer on the table according to the present invention for a longer time than on a conventional
table, pains on the forearms from pressure of the front edge of the table are unlikely to be caused, thereby giving the user a comfort and preventing a kink in the shoulder or the neck.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the table on which an arm holder is put, according to a fourth embodiment of the present invention. As seen in Figure 6, the upper plate 1 is partially covered with the two arm holders 7, each of which is formed with a forearm support part 11 extended with a downward inclination from an end part of the front plate part 9.
By this construction, the upper plate 1 is covered with the two front plate parts 9 of the arm holders 7. The front plate part 9 serves as a mouse pad or a tablet when the user is working with a computer on the table. As described above, the forearms are supported by the forearm support part 11 , so the user is unlikely to feel tired or painful of his forearms. Thus, a kink in the shoulder or the neck could be prevented. In the above-described embodiments, an adhesive plate member is inserted between the front plate part and a table, and the outer surface of the front plate part is UV ray-coated. If necessary, an adhesive plate member may not be inserted them, to thereby enable the arm holder to be moved. Further, other methods than UV ray-coating may be applied to the outer surface of the front plate part.
According to the present invention, there is provided an arm holder used in a table on which a user can rest his arms comfortably, thereby releasing pains applied to the forearms and giving the user a feeling of comfort, and further preventing a kink in the shoulder or the neck. Although the present invention has been described in connection with preferred embodiments thereof, it will be appreciated by those skilled in
the art that additions, modifications, substitutions and deletions not specifically described may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
