Abstract

By means of an adjustable drum consisting of a tube (3) which is closed at one end by a membrane (1) which is fastened between a circular groove (13) on the outside and at the membrane end of the tube (3) and a fastening component (6) which fits the groove (13), the object is to realise an adjustable drum of the kind described by way of introduction, this being cylindrical, easy to handle for all users, and permitting an effortless, uniform tightening of the membrane combined with economy of manufacture. This object is realised according to the present invention by the fastening component (6) being non-elastic and during fixation of the membrane wholly recessed within the groove (13), and by the tube being provided on the side between the membrane end and the groove (13) with at least one additional circular groove (14), this constituting a part of a membrane (1) adjusting mechanism which further consists of a band (5) which fits the groove and from outside the membrane (1) presses the membrane into the groove (14), and a tensioning device connected with the band.

<, groove (13), where the component (6) fits the groove (13), which is arranged on the outside of the membrane end of the tube (3) and with an additional circular groove (14) in-between, where the membrane adjusting mechanism further consists of a wire (5) which fits the groove (14) and is arranged on the outside of the membrane (1), from where it can press the membrane into the o groove (14), characterised in that a) the outer shape of the drum is a circular cylinder without any protruding parts. b) the fastening component (6) is non-elastic and is during fixation of the membrane wholly recessed within the groove (13), s c) the tensioning device is connected to the band (5) and is effected by means of a preferably equal number of sets of closely arranged pairs of holes (4) through the membrane material and the base of the groove (14), and d) the band (5) being looped through these holes (4) into the interior of 0 the tube (3), where e) appropriate tensioning screws (11) are connected to the band (5)

The reference, US-A 1,899,461, cited in the International Search Report refers to a Drum Head Tightening Device comprising circumferentially grooved hoop s surrounding the the circumferential groove with a wire or a band being bent up o n itself to form af loop, the ends of which are anchored to a post, and the tension o f which is controlled by an external device with teeth in a flange. The prior a rt technique can not fulfill the aims of the present invention, as the use for and b y small children in day nurseries and kindergartens would be too dangerous. Further, the musical instrument will not be able to roll, and small children will h a v e difficulties in carrying the musical instrument.

As the adjusting mechanism is arranged on the outside of the drum with a considerable rise of injury to small children, and the prior art drum is not able to roll as a consequence of the non-cylindrical sha+pe of the drum, the prior art cited can only form a technical background for the subject matter invention as amended.
