Description
"PROCESS FOR THE AUTOMATIC VARIATION OF THE WORKING PRESSURE IN MACHINES FOR STEAM GENERATION"
DESCRIPTION The subject of the present invention is a process for the automatic variation of the working pressure in machines for the generation of steam.
The invention applies to machines for the generation of steam suitable for being connected alternatively to a number of electrical household appliances, such as irons, cleaning appliances, humidifiers, and the like.
The invention is directed to set, in an automatic way, for each of the said loads the more suitable value of pressure for carrying out the corresponding functions. Steam-generating machines are known that are equipped with a boiler presenting inside one or more electrical resistors having the function of transforming water into steam.
These machines may be associated, by means of suit- able specialized and dedicated connections, to a number of possible household appliances, such as electric irons, steam cleaning appliances, humidifiers, or the like.
Such machines normally present a suitably calibrated pressure switch which defines the limit value of the pressure at which the said steam-generating machine works .
The said pressure switch is connected to the system for supplying electric power to the electrical resistor associated to the boiler and conditions its operation on the basis of reaching the said limit value.
An operating inconvenience from which known steam- generating machines (that may be connected alternatively to a number of appliances that perform different functions) suffer, derives from the fact that the working pressure of the machine may be oversized for one function and undersized for another function.
For example, if the pressure switch is calibrated so as to trip when a given pressure value is reached, this value may be undersized if the appliance at that moment connected is a steam cleaning appliance, or oversized if the appliance connected is a humidifier.
This leads to an incorrect operation of the connected appliance and hence to an only partial exploitation of the capacity of the steam-generating machine. In an attempt to overcome this drawback, a solution has been proposed that envisages the use of a number of pressure switches with differentiated calibrations, i.e., one pressure switch for each level of possible pressure according to the possible appliances that may be con- nected, the said pressure switches being associated to a manual selector that determines their alternative activation according to the type of appliance connected at that particular moment.
This solution, however, involves an increase in costs and overall dimensions of the machine deriving from the presence of a number of pressure switches and of the system of alternative switching.
In addition, this solution is not altogether safe, in that the user may not remember to make the selection, or else may make an incorrect selection.
To solve this problem and to achieve further advantages, the applicant has devised the present invention.
The purpose of the invention is to realize a process that enables automatic variation of the working pressure in a steam-generating machine in which each appliance connected at a particular moment automatically, works at its proper and most advantageous level of pressure.
This makes it possible to exploit the potential of the steam-generating machine and of each individual ap- pliance to the maximum without thereby generating an increase in installation costs and encumbrance inside the machine .
According to the invention, the steam-generating machine is equipped with a differential pressure transducer capable of supplying at its output a different pressure according to reception of a specific input signal.
According to the invention this input signal is automatically sent to the pressure transducer according to the type of appliance connected to the stea - generating machine at that particular moment.
More in particular, the specific connection of the appliance to the steam-generating machine is designed in such a way that the mere connection itself automatically determines, without any further intervention, the selec- tion of the pressure transducer at the value that is best indicated for that specific appliance.
In this way, any possible risks of the user forgetting or making mistakes are eliminated, and the machine is always ready to work in optimal conditions, whatever appliance is connected.
The features and advantages of the process according to the invention will be apparent from the following detailed description, made with reference to the attached only figure of drawings representing a steam generating machine and a number of appliances to which it can be connected.
The steam-generating machine 10 that adopts the process according to the invention is equipped with an internal boiler 11 associated to a spiral-shaped electri- cal resistor 12 that has the function of heating the water 14 inside the boiler 11 and of transforming it into steam.
This machine 10 externally presents a surface socket member 18, comprising a delivery mouth 19 for the outlet of the steam generator, a first connector 20 for supplying the appliance, and at least one second electrical connector 21 to which the various appliances may be connected alternatively in order to carry out the desired functions . In the present case, as an exemplification, the appliances represented are an iron 13, a steam cleaning appliance 15, and a humidifier 16, which are connected to the socket 18 of the steam-generating machine 10 by means of the respective connections 13a, 15a and 16a. The steam-generating machine 10 presents, inside its structure and at a selected position of the path of transition of the steam towards the outside, a differential pressure transducer 17 which is able to determine an output of steam at three different levels, according to an input signal received.
In the present case, the differential pressure transducer 17 is appropriately electrically connected to the connector 21 of the socket 18, so that the connection of each appliance 13, 15 and 16 to the steam-generating machine 10 through the respective connections 13a, 15a and 16a determines the automatic switching of the said pressure transducer 17 onto the value that is best indicated for that specific appliance.
In other words, for example, the mere attachment of the connection 13a of the iron 13 to the board 18 determines the emission of a signal that automatically switches the pressure transducer 17 onto the most correct output value for the iron 13, for example 2.5 bar.
Likewise, the attachment of the connection 15a of the steam cleaning appliance 15 to the board 18 automatically switches the pressure transducer 17 onto the most correct output value for the cleaning appliance 15, for example 3.5 bar. The same occurs for the connection 16a of the humidifier 16 which, connected to the board 18, determines automatic switching of the pressure transducer 17 onto the output value that is most suitable for the operation of the humidifier 16, for example 1 bar.
In the present case, the signal that determines automatic switching of the pressure transducer 17 is de- termined by the configuration of the pins 24 of the connectors 22a, 22b and 22c with respect to the connector 21 after insertion of one of the said connections 13a, 15a, 16a on the socket 18.
More precisely, the different configuration of the connection pins 24 for each of the three appliances 13,
15, 16 automatically determines the correct setting of the pressure transducer 17.
In the present case, the connector 22a of the connection 13a of the iron 13 presents four pins 24, the connector 22b of the connection 15a of the cleaning appliance 15 presents two diagonally arranged pins 24, and the connector 22c of the connection 16a of the humidifier 16 presents two pins 24 aligned on one side.
It is moreover possible to increase the number of appliances that work at different pressures by arranging further configurations of the connection pins 24 and pressure transducer 17, with a larger number of different selectable pressures.
