Description

UNIVERSAL COUPLING ELEMENT, IN PARTICULAR FOR CELLULAR TELEPHONES
This invention relates to a universal coupling element, in particular for cellular telephones
Cellular telephone coupling elements for installation on motor vehicles are known One of these known coupling elements consists of a fork-shaped element which is fixed to the vehicle dashboard by screws and is provided at the ends of its arms with prongs for removably engaging the sides of the telephone
This known coupling element has however certain drawbacks, and in particular
- it requires the dashboard to be previously drilled for its fixing to the vehicle,
- it can be used only for that telephone model for which it was constructed, as such telephones are not of standard dimensions
To overcome these drawbacks a universal coupling element for cellular telephones has been proposed consisting of a permanent magnet fixable by a double-sided adhesive strip to the vehicle to retain the cellular telephone by the magnetic action exerted on the telephone battery or on an adhesive metal plate to be applied to the battery
This known coupling element has however the drawback of being able to support cellular telephones only without their case, as this does not enable the magnet to exert its magnetic action on the battery or plate
An object of the invention is to eliminate this drawback by providing a universal coupling element in particular for cellular telephones contained in their case A further object of the invention is to provide a coupling element which can be used to support other objects with metal parts, such as spectacles.
These and further objects which will be apparent from the ensuring description are attained according to the invention by a universal coupling element, in particular for cellular telephones as described in claim 1.
The invention is further described hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing, on which: Figure 1 is an exploded side view of a coupling element according to the invention; Figure 2 shows it ready for engaging the cellular telephone; and Figure 3 shows it in the same view as Figure 2, but with the telephone engaged.
As can be seen from the figures, the coupling element of the invention comprises substantially a first element 2 to be fixed to the vehicle, preferably onto the vehicle dashboard, and a second element 4 cooperating with the element 2 and removably engagable by the cellular telephone 5.
Specifically, the element 2 consists of a discoidal permanent magnet 6 provided on one face with a double-sided adhesive strip 7 and having its lateral surface and the other face covered with a thin layer of anti-slip material 8, such as rubber.
The element 4 consists of a cap of plastics material, wood etc., comprising a seat 9 for housing the element 2 and provided on its outer surface with an L-shaped hook 10. An annular plate 11 of ferromagnetic material is inserted in the seat 9.
In some cases the entire cap is constructed of ferromagnetic material, in which case the plate 11 is not provided. The universal coupling element of the invention is used as follows: the element 2 is fixed to the vehicle dashboard 3 by the double-sided adhesive strip, after which the cap 4 is applied to it with the appendix of the L-shaped element 10 positioned substantially horizontal.
By means of its support 12, which is usually hooked onto the belt, the cellular telephone 5, contained in its case, is then engaged with the appendix 10 of the coupling element assembled in this manner. In other cases coupling can be achieved by engaging the eyelet provided on the case.
From the aforegoing it is apparent that the universal coupling element of the invention offers numerous advantages and in particular:
- cellular telephones can be used either with their case or without it (for which it is sufficient to remove the cap),
- it can be mounted easily and comfortably by the vehicle user without requiring any tool,
- it is universal because it can be adapted to any type of clip present on the telephone or case,
- it can be used to support other objects with metal parts, such as spectacles with a metal frame.
