Description
Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Borstenbüschels insbesondere einer ZahnbürsteProcess for producing a tuft of bristles, in particular a toothbrush
The invention relates to a method for producing a bristle tuft, in particular a toothbrush, the bristle tuft being composed of a multiplicity of filaments, and the free ends of the filaments of the bristle tuft being split in their longitudinal direction. The invention also relates to a bristle tuft, in particular a toothbrush, the bristle tuft being composed of a large number of filaments, and the free ends of the filaments of the bristle tuft being split in their longitudinal direction.
Such a method and such a bristle bush egg are known from German laid-open specification DE 30 35 860 A1. There, the tufts of bristles are produced, for example, from hollow monofilaments which are cut to a desired bristle length and assembled into bundles. The free ends of the individual bristles are then subjected to sharpening and splitting according to known procedures. Splitting in the longitudinal direction or so-called flagging of filaments is described, for example, in US Pat. No. 2,911,761.
Splitting the filaments of the tufts of bristles can result in sharp tips and possibly edges on the split parts of the individual filaments. This is when using the bristle tuft e.g. irrelevant for a paintbrush. However, if the bristle tuft is to be used with a toothbrush, the tips in particular can lead to injuries to the gums of the user. For this reason, split filaments have not previously been used in toothbrushes.
The object of the invention is to provide a method with which a tuft of bristles provided with split filaments can be produced, which can also be used with a toothbrush without any problems.
This object is achieved according to the invention in a method or in a tuft of bristles of the type mentioned at the outset in that the free ends of the split filaments are or are rounded off after the split. By rounding the free ends of the split filaments, existing sharp tips and edges of the split parts of the individual filaments are eliminated. This means that the bristle tufts consisting of the rounded filaments can also be used safely with a toothbrush. There is no longer any risk of injury to the user's gums or the like.
At the same time, by splitting the free ends of the filaments of the tufts of bristles, the effective cleaning surface of the toothbrush and thus its cleaning effect is significantly increased. In particular, the split filaments of the bristle tuft achieve a significantly increased cleaning effect of the toothbrush in interdental spaces. A further improvement in the cleaning effect of the tufts of bristles results from the lower stiffness of the individual filaments due to the splitting.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the free ends of the filaments of the tufts of bristles are also rounded before splitting. This measure surprisingly results in a very good and uniform rounding of the free ends of the filaments. This measure also prevents filaments which may not have been split after the splitting from being carried out, possibly not being rounded and then possibly causing injury to the gums.
There is therefore a rounding before and after the filaments of the bristle tuft are split. In this way, sharp tips and / or sharp edges of the individual filament or the split parts of the filaments are reliably avoided. The double rounding of the filaments according to the invention practically completely excludes any possible injury to the gums of the user.
It is advantageous if the filaments are cut to a bristle length in a range from approximately 6 mm to approximately 9 mm. It is also advantageous if the free ends of the filaments are split to a split length in a range from about 10% to about 25% of their bristle length.
It is also advantageous that the proportion of uncleaved bristles in a bundle of bristles is at most 25% of the number of bristles in the bundle. In an advantageous development of the invention, the filaments are split and rounded only in the area of an inner field of a toothbrush having a plurality of bristle tufts.
Due to this arrangement of the split filaments only in the inner field of the toothbrush it is achieved that these split filaments do not come into contact with the gums of the user. This further reduces the possibility of injury to the gums due to tips and / or edges. At the same time, the arrangement of the split filaments in the inner field of the toothbrush ensures that the filaments of the inner field penetrating into the interdental spaces have the increased cleaning effect that is present due to the splitting.
It is advantageous if the filaments in the inner field are shorter than the other filaments, in particular about 0.5 mm shorter. It is thereby achieved that the filaments not arranged in the inner field of the toothbrush can be stuffed and rounded in the inner field without further ado, in particular without further adaptation to the filaments. This rounding ensures that the filaments of the toothbrush, which are not arranged in the inner field, have no tips or edges and therefore do not pose any risk of injury to the user.
It is particularly advantageous if the filaments have a cross section that is trilocular or tetralocular or the like, and / or if the filaments have a diameter that is in a range between approximately 5 mil and approximately 8 mil.

Thus, the cross section can be trilocular according to FIG. 2a, or tetralocular according to FIG. 2b, or X-shaped according to FIG. 2c, or honeycomb-shaped according to FIG. 2d, or quadrilobal according to FIG. 2e or the like.

The filaments 4 of the bristle tufts 3 arranged within the inner field 5 are split in their longitudinal direction, starting from their free ends. The splitting length over which the splitting extends is in a range from about 10% to about 25% of the bristle length of the filaments 4. The number of uncleaved bristles in a bundle is at most about 25% of the number of bristles in the bundle. The filaments 4 are rounded at their free ends. This applies to the free ends of the filaments 4 of the bristle tufts 3 of the outer ring 6, as well as the free ends of the split parts of the individual filaments 4 of the bristle tufts 3 of the inner field 5.
In another advantageous implementation, the bristle type and bristle length in the inner field and outer ring are the same. Of course, further combinations of partial brush areas with unsplit and with split filaments 4 are possible. The length of the bristle tufts 3 with uncleaved filaments 4 is approximately 0.5 mm higher in comparison to the length of the bristle tufts 3 with split filaments 4.
The bristle tufts 3 of the toothbrush 1 are produced as follows.
Filaments are produced, which are assembled into bundles and cut to the bristle length. The free ends of the individual filaments are rounded using known methods and devices. Then, using known methods and devices, the free ends of the filaments are split in their longitudinal direction over the splitting length. The free ends of the split parts of the individual filaments are rounded again.
The individual bristle tufts 3 in the inner field 5 of the toothbrush 1 are composed of the filaments 4 that are now present. The step of splitting is not carried out on the filaments 4 in the outer ring 6 of the toothbrush 1. In these filaments 4 of the outer ring 6, the rounding can optionally only be carried out once, either together with the first or the second rounding of the bristle tufts 3 arranged in the inner field 5. Several rounding cuts of the filaments 4 are theoretically possible.
It is possible that the rounding of the filaments is not carried out before the splitting step. In this case, after the splitting step, the split and the non-split filaments are preferably rounded at the same time or in a single step. The rounding is carried out, for example, by means of rapidly rotating disks or drums, which may be coated with grinding or polishing particles, e.g. B. diamond powder are carried out. For this purpose, the free ends of the filaments are brought into contact with the disk or disks and rounded due to the friction.
