FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to open toe thong socks having a thong strap between the first and second toes of each of the socks for use with footwear such as open-toed sandals. More particularly, this invention relates to wearing open toe thong socks with open-toed sandals with or without a thong strap.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Open toe socks are well known in the prior art and are worn by the user when it is desired to expose the toes while the remainder of the foot and ankle are covered. For example, in pedicure applications, there is a need for the pedicurist to have access to the toes of the client in order to perform cosmetic care on the client's toe nails and also allow the client to walk around freely while the polish is drying. Medical procedures that use open toe socks with open toe shoes include the removal of corns, bunions, warts, ingrown toe nails, infected and fungal toe nails, the setting of broken toes and toe nails and other surgical procedures relating to the toes . Apparel items use open toe socks with open toe high-heel shoes for women and with open toe shoes for women, men and children; or as protective wear without shoes or sandals for walking on grass, hot sand and dirt without having the sole of the wearer's foot get soiled or dirty.
There remains a need for open toe socks each having a single thong strap being positioned between the first and second toes for securing and holding in place the open toe thong sock on the wearer's foot in a secure position. DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART
Pantyhose, stockings, pedicure socks, and open-toe socks having a foot opening which expose one or more toe members having various designs, structure, styles and materials of construction have been disclosed in the prior art. For example, U.S. Patent No. 5,054,129 to BAEHR discloses a pantyhose garment with an open-toe and open-crotch structure. This pantyhose garment includes an open-toe section on each of the foot portions of the pantyhose where a pair of thong straps separate the big toe and the smallest toe from the other toes. This pantyhose garment does not disclose the structure and function of the present invention of an open toe sock having a single thong strap located between the big toe and second toe for use with open-toed shoes and open-toed sandals .
U.S. Patent No. 5,623,734 to PUGLIATTI discloses a pedicure sock having individual compartments/stalls for each of the toes which are truncated to leave the toe nails exposed for nail polishing by a pedicurist. This pedicure sock does not disclose the structure, design or function of the present invention of an open toe sock having a single thong strap located between the big toe and second toe for use with open- toed shoes and open-toed sandals.
U.S. Patent No. 1,999,929 to HEARN discloses a stocking having individual strips, straps or elements 12 extending from a base portion 11 of the stocking 10 where each strip 12 is positioned between each of the toes. This open-toe stocking does not disclose the structure and design of the present invention of an open-toe sock having a single thong strap located between the big toe and second toe for use with open- toed shoes and open-toed sandals. U.S. Patent No. 5,749,100 to ROSENBERG discloses an open- toe sock having a foot engaging portion that engages a foot of the wearer with all of the toes extending outwardly through the open-toe of the foot engaging portion and being exposed. This open-toe sock does not disclose the structure, configuration or design of the present invention of an open- toe sock having a single thong strap located between the big toe and second toe for use with open-toed shoes and open-toed sandals .
None of the prior art patents disclose or teach the structure and function of the present invention of an open toe sock having a single thong strap separating the big toe from the second toe for use with open-toed sandals.
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide open toe socks with each sock having a single thong strap being located between the big toe and second toe for use with open-toed sandals or open-toed shoes and the like, such that each of the thong straps secure and hold in place the open toe thong sock on each of the wearer's feet in a secure position.
Another object of the present invention is to provide open toe thong socks having first toe openings for receiving each of the big toes (hallux) of the wearer and second toe openings for receiving the remaining second through fifth toes of the wearer, wherein each of the first and second toe openings are separated by only a single thong strap.
Another object of the present invention is to provide open toe thong socks for use in particular with open-toed thong sandals each having a thong sandal strap positioned between the big toe and the second toe, such that the thong straps of each of the thong socks are in contact with the thong sandal straps of the thong sandals for providing comfort (no chafing of skin between the big toe and second toe) to the wearer.
Another object of the present invention is to provide open toe thong socks for use in pedicure applications, medical applications and general apparel applications where the wearer has the need for his/her toes to be exposed for a particular event, situation or need.
Another object of the present invention is to provide open toe thong socks each having a skid resistant sole pad member attached to the bottom sole sections of the thong socks for use on dirt, gravel, sand, grass, wood floors, and the like when the wearer uses the thong socks without the use of sandals or shoes.
Another object of the present invention is to provide open toe thong socks each having a reinforced sewn edge for tensile strength for each of the thong straps in order to prevent the tearing of the thong strap from the sewn edge when in use by the wearer.
Another object of the present invention is to provide open toe thong socks that are made of durable, light-weight materials and are easy to wear and clean.
A further object of the present invention is to provide open toe thong socks that can be mass produced in an automated and economical manner and are readily affordable by the user.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
The open toe thong sock 10 and its component parts of the preferred embodiment of the present invention are represented in detail by Figures 1 through 5 of the drawings. The open toe thong sock 10 includes a leg engaging section 20 for engaging the leg 15 of the wearer, an ankle engaging section
22 and a foot engaging section 24 for engaging the foot 14 of the wearer. Foot engaging section 24 includes a heel section
26, a bottom sole section 28 and an upper section 30. Foot engaging section further includes a reinforced sewing edge 32 for forming a sewn circumferential band 32, as shown in Figure
1 of the drawings. This circumferential band 32 defines a large opening 40 for allowing all of the toes 12h, 12dp, 12mp,
12pp and 12m of the user to extend therefrom and be exposed through opening 40. Opening 40 further includes a single thong strap 50 for forming a first toe opening 42 for the user's big toe 12h and for forming a second toe opening 44 for the remaining second through fifth toes 12dp, 12mp, 12pp and
12m, respectively, as depicted in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings . Thong strap 50, as shown in Figure 1A of the drawings, connects upper section 30 at 52 on the circumferential band 32 and bottom sole section 28 at 54 on the circumferential band 32. Thus, strap 50 is connected by sewing at 50a and 50b. In this manner, thong strap 50 separates the opening 40 into a first (big toe) opening 42 for big toe 12h and a second opening 44 for the remaining toes 12dp, 12mp, 12pp and 12m, respectively. Alternatively, strap 50 is integrally formed with upper section 30 and bottom sole sction 28 to connect them, and is formed out of the same sewn material as the sock 10.
Thong socks 10 may be made of various fabric materials selected from the group consisting of cotton, rayon, dacron, polyester, nylon, acrylic, acrylic microfibers, and combinations thereof. In addition, thong socks 10 may also include various types of indicia thereon selected from the group consisting of letters, flowers, corporate logos, sports logos, animals, insects, geometric patterns and the like. Thong socks 10 may be made of various lengths to cover the user's thighs, knees, below knee length and below ankle length for use by men, women and children.
As an optional feature, the open toe thong sock 10 may further include a sole pad member 60 being flexible and skid resistant for use by the wearer when the thong sock 10 is not worn with a sandal 16 or 18, such that the wearer can walk on sand, grass, dirt, gravel, wood floors and the like, as depicted by Figure 3 of the drawings. The sole pad member 60 is attached to the bottom sole section 28 by means of gluing, stitching or the like.
OPERATION OF THE INVENTION In using the open toe thong socks 10 of the present invention, the wearer simply slips his/her leg 15 and foot 14 through the leg and foot opening 46 of each thong sock 10. 8
The wearer then adjusts the thong sock 10, as shown in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings, such that leg engaging section 20 encompasses each of the legs 15 of the wearer, the ankles (not shown) of the wearer and each of the feet 14 of the wearer, such that the toes 12h, 12dp, 12mp, 12pp and 12m are extending through opening 40 of thong sock 10. The wearer then further adjusts each of the thong straps 50, as depicted in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings, such that each of the thong straps 50 separates each of the big toes 12h from the second toes 12dp of the user's feet 14.
In this manner, of the big toes 12h are extending through each of the first openings 42 of thong socks 10 and the remaining toes 12dp, 12mp, 12pp and 12m are extending through each of the second openings 44 of thong socks 10. As shown in Figure 4 of the drawings, thong socks 10 can be worn with open-toed thong sandals 16 having a thong sandal strap 16t positioned between the big toe 12h and the second toe 12dp such that thong strap 50 of the thong sock 10 is in contact with the thong sandal strap 16t of thong sandal 16. Additionally, thong socks 10 can be worn with open sandals 18 having no thong sandal straps 16t attached to the sandals 18, as depicted in Figure 5 of the drawings.
ADVANTAGES OF THE PRESENT INVENTION Accordingly, an advantage of the present invention is that it provides for open toe socks with each sock having a single thong strap being located between the big toe and second toe for use with open-toed sandals or open-toed shoes and the like, such that each of the thong straps secure and hold in place the open toe thong sock on each of the wearer's feet in a secure position.
