Definitions

  • the present invention relates to displays and more particularly to digital display of pictures, such as photographs or prints.
  • pictures such as photographs or prints.
  • frames take up space on walls, tables, shelves and other areas from which they can be viewed. Thus, only a limited number of pictures may be shown at one time.
  • protective coverings for preventing damage to the pictures due to direct handling as skin oils, smudges, bending and tearing.
  • Pictures are also protected from damage caused by light through the use of special mounting paper and glass. To accommodate large collections of pictures, albums and other similar multiple displays are used. However, the viewer must go through each individual page of the albums .
  • Some albums merely contain slots for holding the pictures which do not secure well and thus the pictures may become dislodged and fall out as the viewer turns a page in the album. Furthermore, the album pages can be easily bent. Thus, pictures can be damaged by falling out of the album or being bent with a page.
  • Another approach for displaying multiple pictures is to use a video cassette.
  • Pictures are transferred to a video cassette to which music may be added and other visual elements, including titles or other graphical elements.
  • the video cassette often contain pictures of a particular event, vacation or merely just family members. While a video cassette can contain multiple pictures, it is also limited in display because it requires a video cassette player and a television. Thus, while the video cassette is portable, the pictures may not be viewed unless a video cassette player and television is available.
  • Digitizing pictures and placing them on compact discs for storage and retrieval is becoming more and more popular. Individuals are able to scan photographs, prints or the like into their computer and store them on a compact disc (CD) or in a file on their hard drive or a computer disc.
  • CD compact disc
  • a CD player is commonly connected to the computer screen and the user may utilize various software programs to create, enhance, alter or merely display the picture.
  • the present invention is a portable display for showing multiple photographs, prints or pictures in a frame by combining a picture frame and a compact disc player.
  • the compact disc player is mounted to the back of the frame with a display screen contained within the frame.
  • a control means is also mounted to the picture frame and controls the compact disc player and the display on the screen. The control ensures a continuous display of the pictures stored on the compact disc.
  • the power source may be either a battery or a power cord connected to a conventional household outlet.
  • the primary object of the present invention is to provide a portable device for viewing pictures, such as photographs or prints stored on a compact disc that can be use at home or for business purposes.
  • Another object of the present invention is to provide a portable device that automatically displays a continuous showing of multiple pictures stored on a compact disc.
  • a further object of the present invention is to provide a traditional frame combined with a CD ROM player for displaying pictures digitally stored on a compact disc. DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

  • the present invention is a compact disc picture frame display designated 10 in Figure 1. It includes a housing 12 and a frame 14 extending around the perimeter of the housing on a front 16.
  • frame 14 is unlimited and may be a traditional wood frame, metal frame or plastic frame due to the wide selection of frame styles, shapes, patterns and colors.
  • Frame 14 is mounted on front 16 of housing 12 and within frame 14 is a liquid crystal display (LCD) screen 18. Any other comparable screen may be used for displaying the pictures, such as photographs or prints, as will be explained in greater detail.
  • LCD liquid crystal display
  • Any other comparable screen may be used for displaying the pictures, such as photographs or prints, as will be explained in greater detail.
  • On side 20 of housing 12 is a slot designated 22 for receiving a compact disc therein. Also included is an eject button 24 and a power switch 26.
  • a CD player with additional control features, such as forward, reverse, pause and play may be used.
  • Such a CD Rom player may be necessary if the compact disc picture frame display 10 will be used for business purposes. However, the player disclosed is sufficient for display of pictures at home.
  • FIG 3 the interior of the housing is shown by removing the front 16, screen 18 and frame 14 is shown. It contains a compact disc player 28, a power supply 30 for the compact disc player, a power supply 32 for the LCD screen 18 and a system board 34 for controlling the CD player 28 and LCD screen 18.
  • Figure 4 shows a schematic of the items positioned within the housing 12 of the picture frame display 10.
  • the system board 34 includes a processor with appropriate circuitry designed to transfer digital pictures stored on a compact disc from the CD player 28 to a storage device on the system board 34, such as a RAM 34A, as well known to those skilled in the art.
  • the selected pictures are then transferred to the LCD display in a predetermined order and for a predetermined time specified by the system board's ROM 34B, as well known to those skilled in the art.
  • the power supply 30 is coupled to both the CD player 28, the LCD power supply 32 and the system board 34 providing the necessary voltage to operate these components.
  • the power supply can be a battery pack or an adapter power cord for inserting into a conventional home power outlet.
  • a compact disc (not shown) having pictures digitally stored thereon, is inserted into slot 22 of the CD player 28.
  • the power switch 26 is then turned on and the CD player 28 begins to play the compact disc.
  • Each picture is selected to be displayed on the LCD screen 18 for a predetermined time as programmed on the system board 34.
  • each picture is displayed for thirty seconds to one minute and which the next picture is then displayed.
  • the CD player preferably goes through each picture stored on the disc and displays them once before beginning again to have a continuous loop of the pictures shown.
  • the pictures may be selected at random with no picture shown a second time until all pictures have been shown.
  • the desired display is readily programmed into the system board as well known by those of skill in the art. The device will continually display the pictures stored on the LCD until the viewer wishes to stop the display by pressing the power off button 26.
