Description

Title: A device for supporting an apparatus
Technical Field
The invention relates to a device for supporting an apparatus, such as a display, and comprising a foot to be mounted on a base.
Background Art
Devices for supporting apparatuses, such as lamps and displays, are known. These devices comprise a foot provided with means, such as screws or glues, for a direct securing thereof onto a base. Ordinarily, such a mounting implies that the base is completely plane at least in the area where the foot is to be secured. When it is a question of mounting devices on the instrument panel of a cab, the make of the car makes it more or less difficult to find a suitable plane area for the mounting procedure. It is also difficult in advance to provide the foot with a shape corresponding to the shape of the instrument panel so as to allow the securing because the shaping of the instrument panels vary a great deal.
Brief Description of the Invention
The object of the invention is therefore to provide a device allowing an easy securing thereof independent of the shaping of the base.
The device according to the invention is characterised in that the foot is provided with a mounting pad or bag on the lower face, said mounting pad or bag being made of a resilient material and adapted to receive fluids which form part of a two-component system curing when mixed, and that the mounting pad is provided with a layer of glue on the side facing away from the foot, said layer of glue being used for a permanent gluing onto the base. As a result it is easy to secure the device to the base by initially fixing said device relative to the base in question by means of a suitable equipment, and subsequently by activating the two-component system in such a manner that the mounting pad is filled up and the content thereof is caused to cure at the same time as said mounting pad enters a shape completely matching the shape of the base and follows possible irregularities therein. Consequently, the presence of the glue layer ensures simultaneously that the necessary permanent connection between the base and the foot is established.
In order to ensure that the transition between the foot and the base is provided with a pleasant appearance, the foot may according to the invention comprise a circumferential skirt which at the mounting abuts the base and covers the mounting pad.
This skirt may according to the invention advantageously be a rubber strip.
According to the invention the mounting pad may advantageously be glued onto the remaining portion of the foot.
In addition, the foot may according to the invention be provided with a first plate on the lower face, said first plate being fixedly connected to the uppermost portion of the foot, as well as a second plate secured to said foot in such a manner that it abuts the lower face of the first plate and is provided with members along the periphery for the mounting of the skirt. The resulting mounting of the skirt is particularly easy.
Furthermore, the mounting pad may according to the invention comprise a portion projecting outside the foot, said portion being adapted to receive the fluids of the two-component system and being adapted to be removed after the curing. As a result, it is relatively easy to activate the two-component system in question and to fill the mounting pad because it is possible to establish the necessary connection between the fluids and an opening into the mounting pad outside the periphery of the foot, and because it is easy to subsequently cut off the projecting portion by means of a knife at a location positioned inside the skirt after the mounting.
As an additional security of the durability of the mounting, one of the plates may according to the invention comprise a tongue-shaped extension projecting outside the periphery of the foot, said extension being adapted to be secured directly to the base. In this manner it is possible to establish an additional securing of the device by a suitable shaping of the extension, for instance by introducing the end of the extension into an air vent by a suitable bending and adaption, if any, of said extension.
The mounting pad may according to the invention be suitably made of latex with the result that a particularly good resilience is obtained.
Finally according to the invention a protective film may be provided on the glue layer on the lower face of the mounting pad, said protective film being torn off prior to the use.
Brief Description of the Drawing
The invention is explained in greater detail below with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a device with a display according to the invention, and
Fig. 2 is a side view of the foot of the device, where parts have been cut off for the sake of clarity.
Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
The device of Fig. 1 comprises a foot 1 carrying a display 3 by means of a holder 2, such as for instance a so-called gooseneck, said display being used for showing various data. Such a device can be used in a cab for showing various data. The hardware necessary for controlling the display 3 can for instance be incorporated in the foot 1 of the device.
The device must be mounted at a user-friendly location within the visual field of the driver, and accordingly it is often mounted on the instrument panel which at the mounting location is of a shape deviating from the completely plane shape.
As illustrated in Fig. 2, the foot 1 comprises a first plate 4 on the lower face. This first plate is secured to a superposed portion of a housing 6 by way of a means not shown, said first plate being received in a mating circumferential recess 5 in the housing 6 of the foot 1. A second plate 7 is secured below and to the first plate 4 by way of a means not shown in greater detail. The second plate 7 comprises a downwardly bent rim along the periphery, said rim being provided in a suitable manner, such as by way of beading. This rim forms a collar 9 for the securing of a circumferential rubber strip 10. This rubber strip 10 forms a downwardly projecting skirt along the periphery of the foot 1. A resilient pad 11 of a suitable plastics, such as polyethylene (EVA), is secured by way of gluing inside the skirt 10 and on the lower face of the second plate 7. This pad is adapted to receive a foamed substance deriving from a two-component system curing so as to form a solid substance by a mixing of its fluid components.
According to an advantageous embodiment the pad 11 comprises a portion 12 projecting outside the periphery of the foot 1. This portion 12 is connected to the portion of the pad 11 positioned inside the skirt through a relatively narrow channel 13. The portion 12 of the pad 11 projecting outside the foot 1 is provided with a partition 14. This partition 14 is adapted in a conventionally known manner to be broken off or removed when the fluids outside said partition 14 have been mixed in a conventionally known manner, said fluids individually forming a component of a two-component system.
The pad 11 comprises a glue layer 15 within the portion of the skirt 10 and on the side facing away from the plates 4 and 7, said glue layer 15 being covered by a protective film 16. The protective film 16 is adapted to be torn off when the glue layer 15 is to be uncovered at the mounting.
The glue layer 15 in question is made of a glue of any suitable type compatible with the materials which are to be glued together.
When the device is to be mounted on a base indicated by means of a dotted line 17 in Fig. 2, the protective film 16 is removed and the foot of the device is fixed in a suitable position while subjected to a partial compressing of the mounting pad 11 on top of the base 17. This fixed positioning is carried out by means of a suitable equipment not shown which is removed after the mounting.
Subsequently, the two-component system is activated whereafter it is carried into the interior of the pad 11 by breaking through the partition 14. During the latter proce- dure the two-component system foams and fills out the mounting pad 11. In the mounting pad the two-component system cures and enters a solid state which on the bottom side completely mates the shape of the base 17. Now the glue layer 15 ensures that the necessary securing is established. As a result, the circumferential skirt 10 abuts the base 17, cf. the dotted lines at 18, and covers the mounting pad 11. The projecting portion 12 of the mounting pad 11 is cut off after the curing inside the area of the skirt 10 in such a manner that the remaining portions of the channel 13 are covered as well.
If an additional security is desired of the permanent securing of the device, the lower plate 7 may be provided with a tongue-shaped extension 19, cf. Fig. 2. The tongue- shaped extension 19 extends through a recess in the skirt 10 and can be adapted so as to be secured to the base 18 in a desired manner, such as through an existing opening in the instrument panel, by being suitably bent and cut off.
The invention has been described with reference to a preferred embodiment. Many modifications can, however, be carried out without thereby deviating from the scope of the invention. The foot can, if desired, be adapted so as to be removed when the presence of the device inside the car is no longer required. The mounting pad 11 can also be secured in advance to the lower second plate 7, and the latter plate 7 can be adapted so as to be detachably mounted on the first plate 4, such as through a type of bayonet lock engaging at the turning of the plates 4 and 7 relative to one another. In this manner it is possible later on to temporarily dismount the upper portion of the device whereas the pad 11 with the lower plate 7 and the rubber strip 10 thereon is left permanently on the base 17.
