Abstract

The invention relates to a cutting apparatus for steel plate or the like, comprising a machine table and provided thereon a bottom blade and, movable substantially in vertical direction and interacting with the bottom blade, an upper blade for cutting the steel plate. The bottom blade is provided with a groove which is suitable for receiving the corner rim of the steel plate. The machine comprises means to place and hold the steel plate at an angle in relation to the machine table and braced in the groove. The groove is positioned such that when the steel plate is placed into the groove, it extends at least partly into the range of interaction between the bottom blade and upper blade, and once the steel plate has been placed firmly into the groove, the upper blade can be operated to carry out a substantially straight-lined movement and thereby cutting the steel plate.

Description

1
Cutting apparatus for steel plate
The invention relates to a cutting apparatus for steel plate or the like, comprising a machine table and provided thereon a bottom blade and, movable substantially in vertical direction and interacting with the bottom blade, an upper blade for cutting the steel plate.
Such a cutting apparatus is known in practice and is used for cutting to size steel plates, for example. In practice there is an existing need for providing steel plates with a bevelled edge. Two adjacent steel plates provided with such a bevelled edge can then be welded together easily and firmly.
Bevelling a steel plate is laborious. In the prior art various manners are known for bevelling edges. For example, the rim of the steel plate may be ground off by means of a grinding wheel, which is very time consuming and involves onerous working conditions. It is also possible to bevel edges by means of broaching or milling, however, that demands an expensive machine while still taking a long time. Special machines for bevelling edges of a steel plate are known.
The object of the invention is to embody a cutting apparatus , which mainly serves for making straight cuts , in such a way as to provide an easy manner for bevelling steel plates . To that end the cutting apparatus according to the invention is embodied in such a way that the bottom blade is provided with a groove which is suitable for receiving the corner rim of the steel plate, that the machine comprises means to place and hold the steel plate at an angle in relation to the machine table and braced in the groove, that the groove is positioned such that when the steel plate is firmly placed into the groove, it extends at least partly into the range of interaction between the bottom blade and upper blade, and that, once the steel plate has been placed firmly into the groove, the upper blade can be operated to carry out a substantially straight-lined movement and thereby cutting the steel plate. The size of the bevelled edge is then determined by the angle that the steel plate forms with the bottom blade . In order to have available a large number of setting possibilities with respect to the bevel, it is desirable that the means for placing and holding the steel plate in the groove comprise a support that is adjustable in height . The invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to a schematic drawing of the cutting apparatus according to the invention.
The single figure of the drawing schematically represents the cutting apparatus 1. Said cutting apparatus comprises a machine table 2 , with a bottom blade 3 permanently mounted thereto. The cutting apparatus 1 further comprises an upper blade 4 movable substantially in vertical direction and interacting with the bottom blade 3 , for cutting a steel plate 5. The bottom blade 3 is pro- vided with a groove 6 which is preferably V-shaped. This provides adequate support for the steel plate 5. Into said groove fits a corner rim 7 of the steel plate 5. Further, the cutting apparatus 1 has a support 8 which is adjustable in height for placing and holding the steel plate 5 at an angle in relation to the machine table 2 and braced in the groove 6 . As shown in the schematic figure, the groove 6 is positioned such that the steel plate 5 extends at least partly into the range of interaction between the bottom blade 3 and upper blade 4. Once the steel plate 5 has been placed into that position and is stabilized, the upper blade 4 can be operated to carry out a substantially downward straight -lined movement and thereby cutting the steel plate 5. After this machining, the resulting steel plate 5 is provided with the bevel as desired.
