"GENERATOR OF A LIQUID CLEANING/SANITIZING PRODUCT AND THE VARIOUS SYSTEMS OF APPLICATION" The present invention relates to a
GENERATOR OF A LIQUID CLEANING/SANITIZING PRODUCT AND THE VARIOUS SYSTEMS OF APPLICATION, for use in sanitary environments, on toilet bowls and urinals, combined with the flushing system, either by means of independent devices or as an integral part of the flushing valve or system, or of the toilet bowl itself.
The subject of the patent is provided with innovative solutions relative to cleaning/sanitizing systems, where after long and profitable technological researches with respect to its applicability and functionality and to its purpose, a series of advantages was obtained over conventional flushing systems with results which will undoubtedly satisfy the foreseen purposes, performing the functions for which it was designed in a practical and efficient manner, providing the users with a complete environmental and sanitary cleaning/sanitization, before, during and principally after the use of the toilet bowl and urinal, thus rendering the environment totally cleansed/sanitized and aromatized after its use.
With respect to the cleaning/santization system of sanitary environments, the inventor is aware of patents: US 3,946,448 of March 30, 1976 which deals with an apparatus for disinfecting and purifying the bathtub and consisting of a receptacle containing a liquid purifying and disinfecting product which is connected to and feeds a capsule fitted with a control valve, mounted in the cavity of the
edge of the tub; US 4,168,550 of September 25, 1979, which relates to a unit adapted for submersion in the water contained in the toilet bowl, of a purifying/aromatizing liquid product, including a storage receptacle which is coupled to the edge of the wall of the flushing box and containing the referred to purifying/aromatizing liquid product; US 4,571,752 of February 25, 1996, described as a sanitary disinfectant system which includes a water supply box, a control valve and a storage tank for the liquid disinfecting product; BR PI 8301232 of March 11, 1983, relating to a deodorizing valve which includes a receptacle for holding the disinfecting liquid, with its base cast in the flush pipe; BR PI 8401158 of March 14, 1984. relating to a deodorizing valve with a receptacle for the disinfecting liquid adapted to the flush pipe; BR PI 8401915 of April 18, 1984, relating to a device for disinfecting and aromatizing toilet bowls and which consists of adapting a small receptacle for holding the disinfecting liquid close to the conventional flushing valve and communicating with end portion of the toilet bowl flush pipe; BR PI 8405399 of October 24, 1984, relating to an automatic disinfecting liquid injection system for flushing valves of float valve type cisterns, in which the injection mechanism is activated by the discharge of the flushing water in conjunction with the float valve; BR PI 8501436 of March 25, 1985, relating to an automatic o sinfecting liquid injection device for toilet bowls, adaptable to flushing valves and pressure, in which the water injecting mechanism operated by the water pressure causes a portion of the disinfecting liquid to flow to the toilet bowl; BR PI 8702960 of June 11, 1987, relating to a float valve type cistern with an internal automatic cusinfecting liquid injection system.
All of the systems related to in these patents only operate during the flushing periods, with small quantities of the product. The deodorizing and aromatizing product used is in a liquid state, being held in a receptacle to be couples to the toilet bowl or flush pipe, with exception of PI 8401915, in which the receptacle is adapted close to the conventional flushing valve, and of PI 8702960, where the injection system is situated in the float valve type cistern.
Being a liquid product, it simply mixes with the flushing water and is discharges into the toilet bowl and from there to the drain. In addition, due to being a liquid product, the amount contained in the receptacle is rapidly consumed, requiring constant replacement and extra operations which consist of the removal of said receptacle from its mounting, replacement of the product and of the receptacle on the toilet bowl or in the cistern. The effect of the liquid deodorizing liquid is, therefore, transitory only, as it does not remain together with the residual water at the bottom of the toilet bowl.
In the present invention the cleaning/sanitizing and aromatizing product is produced in the actual systems activated at the moment of use, that is, in the actual compartment where the generator of the liquid sanitizing product is installed.
The generator of the liquid cleaning/sanitizing product is defined as a solid block in the form of a rod of any geometric configuration and which is composed of a combination of various chemical products or substances. For application in sanitary environments, for toilet bowls and urinals, this combination will have
sanitizing, bactericidal, germicide, detergent, emulsionizing and deodorizing properties with diversified fragrances, the principal object being to avoid the spread of germs and bacteria and also contribute to sewage treatment stations by inhibiting the formation of organic residues harmful to health, proffering resources for the sanitization, cleaning, sterilization and aromatization of sanitary environments where applied, specially toilet bowls and urinals before (because they still hold the remains of the previous flushing), during (because the liquid cleaning/sanitizing product extracted from the solid generator mixes with the flushing water and is thus conveyed to the inlet pipe of the toilet bowl or urinal) and after their use (because it always leaves a residual effect for more than 24 hours).
The cleaning/sanitizing process begins from the various flushing systems (at the moment of activation) and is carried through the run of the flush pipes as well as the toilet bowl and urinal, averting all and every possibility of the ambient air being contaminated with the bad odor (which, without the present generator of a concentrated cleaning/sanitizing product, would emanate from the toilet bowl and urinal after use), maintaining thus the ambient air with a pleasant fragrance for a long period.
These effects reside in the fact that cleaning/sanitizing, disinfecting, aromatizing, detergent and emulsionizing substances compounded in the formulation of the concentrated product existing in the referred to generator, are mixed with the flushing water. And, because of the resulting benefits can, consequently, contribute to the cleaning/sanitizing of the
sewage network, preventing that residues harmful to health contaminate the main sewer and in addition, the water reservoir, and finally, providing also treatment in the sewage stations.
To summarize, the process of obtaining the hquid cleaning/sanitizing product is the practical extraction of a necessary part of the cleaning/sanitizing and disinfecting substance of the concentrated block when subjected to the whirling action of a surrounding volume of water, constituting one of the simple components that will form an integral part of the LIQUID SANITIZING PRODUCT obtained by the present GENERATOR.
In other words, part of the flow of the flushing water under pressure will be bypassed into the compartment or receptacle containing the solid concentrated block (generator of the liquid cleaning/sanitizing product), causing a whirlpool effect around said block, in this way extracting from its mass part of the cleaning/sanitizing and disinfecting compound which, in a liquid state, mixes with the water. After filling the compartment, the water, now combined with the cleaning/sanitizing and disinfecting properties, plus an air current, is conveyed so as to flow through the flush pipe of the toilet bowl or urinal, cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting and aromatizing the drain piping and consequently all the sewer network.
The cleaning/sanitization, disinfecting, aromatizing, detergent and emulsionization will continue after flushing is completed by means of the dripping of the product, that is, even after the completion of the flushing, the product will continue to trickle (drip) into the toilet bowl or urinal until the normal stationary water level in
the bowl or urinal is attained, extending in this manner the destructive effect on germs, as well as the aromatizing effect, imparting a long-lasting fragrance to the ambient air.
The generator of the liquid cleaning/sanitizing product can be applied in the sanitary installations in any type of building, social or otherwise, or installations in building under construction or in existing sanitary installations, the application being very simple and follow the same conventional installation standards as used for similar products on the market. As can be seen in Figure 1, the generator of the concentrated cleaning/sanitizing and disinfecting product consists essentially of a solid block in the form of a rod (1) which can have any geometrical configuration and which consists of a compound of various chemical products or substances having cleaning, sanitizing, bactericidal, germicide, detergent, emulsionizing and also deodorizing and aromatizing properties with diversified fragrances. The concentrated cleaning/sanitizing and disinfecting product referred to is obtained by extracting part of these properties from the solid block when same is subjected to the whirling action of a surrounding volume of water, constituting one of the simple components that will form an integral part of the CONCENTRATED CLEANING/SANITIZING PRODUCT obtamed by said GENERATOR.
The turbulence of the water around the solid concentrated block takes place inside a compartment or receptacle comprising a turbulence chamber contaming said solid concentrated block, this compartment or receptacle being a component part in the application of the various systems or assemblies herewith described.
One of these systems of application of the generator of the concentrated cleaning/sanitizing product consists of a device for combined cistern/toilet bowls (Figure 2 through 6), which is an integral part of the water supply to the cistern (2) - consisting of the inlet valve (3), float assembly (4), water inlet tube (6) and flush pipe (7).
Said device consists of a cylindrical or non-cylindrical receptacle (8) to which a circular body (9) in the foπn of an inverted tumbler with a central hole (10) is integrally molded externally and at a level close to its outlet. The bottom cap of this receptacle possesses a circular groove (12) to which is fitted the tapered end (13) of a connecting tube (14) on a tangent. Near the top of the receptacle and above the circular body (9) is a threaded hole into which is screwed an outlet element in the form of an elbow (15) with passage (16). The free end of this outlet element (15) is located inside the opening (10) of the circular body
(9).
The cistern water feed system is inter-connected to the device by a small flexible tube (17) coupled to the tube by connector (14). The device is coupled to the flush pipe (7) by means of circular body (9) which is simply fitted over the end of said flush pipe.
The cistern water feed system includes a water down pipe (18).
As can be seen from Figure 4, the receptacle (8) is for containing the solid block (1) generator of the concentrated cleaning/sanitizing product. Said solid block (1) is contained inside a protective wire screen (19) fitted in the receptacle (8) by means of its turned top edge (20) which is fitted over the upper end of said receptacle
(8). On activated the totally silent flushing action by means of the activating button (21), the inlet valve (3)
opens and the cistern is supplied through the water inlet tube (6) and under pressure, part of the water is bypassed through the flexible tube (17) and connection (14) to the interior of receptacle (8) containing the concentrated solid block (1) which is then subjected to the whirling action of the water flow which extracts part of its cleaning/sanitizing, disinfecting, aromatizing, detergent and emulsionizing composition, which in turn is mixed with the water. The receptacle (8) being filled, the water, now containing the properties extracted from the solid block (1), is conveyed through passage (16) of the elbow (15) so as to trickle slowly down the flush pipe (7) towards the toilet bowl, even after the completion of the flushing action and until the normal stationary water level in said toilet bowl is attained.
Part of the cleaning/sanitizing product mixed with water contained in receptacle (8) is returned to the cistern through the water down pipe (18) and is deposited on the bottom of same, thus, when the cistern is refilled, the product mixes with the water producing its cleaning/sanitizing effects inside the cistern before the next flushing action.
Another system of application of the generator of the concentrated cleaning/sanitizing product consists of a flushing valve (Figures 8 through 14), composed of a box (22) having an upper part in the form of a cube and the lower part in the form of a tube, the upper part being divided by an intermediate wall (23) into two superimposed compartments, the lower being a turbulence chamber (24) where the solid generator block (1) of the cleaning/sanitizing product is located, and the upper being a transitory reservoir (25). A slot (26) is opened at a proper location in the intermediate wall (23).
A threaded opening (27) is made in the side of the turbulence chamber (24) for fitting the support (28) of the solid generator block (1) of the cleaning/sanitizing product located within a protective wire screen (29) incorporated in the support (28). The lower part of the box is provided with a longitudinal passageway (30) for the flow of the flushing water.
A vent tube (31) having a curved lower end pointed toward the outlet opening (32) of the flow passageway (30), is located in the turbulence chamber (24).
The internal portion of the front wall of the turbulence chamber (24) is inclined (33) and terminates after penetrating the flow passageway (30) in the direction contrary to the flow of the flushing water, pointing therefore towards the inlet opening (34) and being arated by a wall (35) located between the chamber (24) and the passageway (30) and having a communicatio" orifice (36).
The device as such can be fitted in the flush pipe (37) of a conventional cistern with a pull cord (38) - Figure
11. As an alternative it can be fitted to the flush pipe (39) at the inlet to the toilet bowl (40) in existing environments or in tliose under construction, as can be seen in Figure 12.
It can also be set into the actual structure of the toilet bowl (40) as an integral part of the same, as shown in the example in Figure 13, with this bringing about innumerable technical, practical, functional and economic advantages, reducing labor and installation costs.
This incorporation would be carried out during the manufacturing process of the toilet bowl as an integral element the same, thus presenting a one-piece assemblage consisting of the toile bowl and a disinfecting and sanitizing device for the flushing system, conferring other great advantages to the proposed object.
It can also be fitted to the flushing system of a urinal, either collective (Figure 14) or simple.
On activating the flushing system, water enters through the passageway (30) towards the toilet bowl. Part of the water, when on contacting the wall (35), passes through the communication orifice (36) and enters the turbulence chamber (24). Due to the internal configuration of the walls surrounding chamber (24), the water is forced, due to its flow pressure, to form a turbulence around the solid block (1), removing from same a portion of its cleaning/sanitizing, disinfecting, aromatizing, detergent and emulsionizing properties which mix with the water and return to passageway (30) through the communication orifice (36), from there mixing with the flushing water together with an entrainment of air from the vent tube (31) and through the outlet opening (32) to the toilet bowl. Another system of application of the generator of the concentrated cleaning/samtizing product consists of a sanitary disinfecting valve (Figures 15 through 17), of easy application and which can be installed in existing sanitary environments or in those under construction, being composed of a combined cistern (37) where a compartment (38) for the installation of the flushing valve is included on one side, and on the other side a cistern (39) containing the turbulence
chamber holding the solid block (1) generator of the concentrated cleaning/sanitizing product. The lateral wall (40) of the combined cistern (37), which limits the area of the reservoir or the cistern (39), is specially formed to conform with its function in the system, that is, the top part is curved inwards.
A tubular sleeve (41) is incorporated in the top of the body (37) of the combined cistern for connecting the water feed pipe and a tubular sleeve (42) is incorporated in the lower part for connecting the flush pipe, these two sleeves (41) and (42) internally interconnected to the flushing valve compartment (38). A vent channel (44) is incorporated in the body of the cistern with the outlet connected to the flush pipe through sleeve (42).
An orifice (45) in the wall of compartment (38) is the point of communication of this compartment with the adjacent cistern (39), said cistern being in communication with the flush pipe through orifice (46).
A sump area (47) at the bottom of cistern (39) is the deposit for a determined quantity of water combined with the cleaning/sanitizing, disinfecting, aromatizing, detergent and emulsionizing substance in liquid form, extracted from the solid block ( 1 ).
To install the solid block (1) a connector the body (48) of which possesses a male thread (49) is used for coupling to the threaded opening in the combined cistern (37) wliich can be located at any level of the front wall of the cistern, a protuberance (50) being foreseen to facilitate installation. To connector (48) a tubular wire net
(51) is incorporated to hold the solid block (1) generator of the concentrated cleaning/sanitizing product (see Figure 7).
In this manner, whenever it becomes necessary to replace the solid block (1), simply remove the connector, insert a new solid bock (1) and replace the connector in the threaded opening in the cistern (37). A sealing ring (52) is placed between the flange of the connector (48) and the cistern (37).
When the flushing system is activated, part of the water enters the cistern (39) through orifice (45). As the jet of water impinges on the concavity of wall (40) it is deflected, resulting in turbulence around the solid block (1) and the extraction from same of the necessary part of the cleaning/sanitizing, disinfecting, aromatizing, detergent and emulsionizing substance which, in liquid form, flow together with the water and air entrainment down the flush pipe. Another system of application of the generator of the concentrated cleaning/sanitizing product consists of a variation of the construction (Figure 17) of the previous system and which consists of a combined cistern (53) provided with a compartment (54) for the installation of the flushing valve and further compartment (55) which forms the turbulence chamber where the solid block (1) generator of the cleaning/sanitizing, disinfecting, aromatizing, detergent and emulsionizing product is located and which, involved in the turbulence of the flushing water, supplies part of its composition in liquid foπn which flows, together with the flushing water and an air entrainment through the flush pipe to the toilet bowl to carry out its sanitizing and aromatizing action.
The innovation is this system consists in the incorporation of the turbulence chamber (55), and adjacent compartment (56) which consists of an extension of the combined cistern
(53), the division wall (57) having a special shape in that the upper part is curved into a concavity (58).
In this adjacent compartment (56), which is provided with a removable cover for possible repairs and maintenance, a suction device (59) is installed, the air outlet (60) being located at a convenient point in said box (56). The top wall (61) of the adjacent box (56) is extended and its end is curved downwards (62) forming a guide vane, being conjoined with concave part (58) of wall (57), and the top wall forming a channel (63) of communication between the turbulence chamber (55) and the enclosure of the suction device (59). Ahead of the inlet to this channel
(63) a gate element (65) is located on a pivot (64), said element being fitted with a return spring (66) which maintains it normally open.
When the flushing system is activated, water enters the turbulence chamber under pressure through orifice (54a) located in the wall separating compartments (54) and (55), forming a whirlpool around the solid block (1).
On entering the turbulence chamber (55) the force of the water under pressure overcomes the return spring (66) action and closes the gate element (65) against the entranced to channel (63), thus obstructing the flow of water to the compartment containing the suction device (59).
Part of the water mixed with the concentrated cleaning/sanitizing product extracted from the solid block (1) is normally deposited in a sump area (55a) at the bottom of compartment (55). After completion of the flushing, and no further water enters the turbulence chamber, the pressure thereby is released and consequently the return spring (66) allows the gate element (65) to return to its open position, thus freeing channel (63).
The suction element (59) is then activated (manually, electrically or electronically) drawing the clean/sanitized and fragrant air present in the turbulence chamber through channel (63) and blowing it to the external part of the system through air outlet (60), thus mamtaining the ambient air permanently sterilized and fragrant. The gate element (65) constitutes a safety device the action of which is nullified the moment the flushing valve is activated, functioning only after the end of the flushing action when no more internal pressure exists in the turbulence chamber.
Another system of application of the generator of the concentrated cleaning/sanitizing product (Figures 18 through 20) consists of a device which is an integral part of the flushing system and is installed in a rectangular shaped cistern (67) of relatively thin section and which possesses a large inspection opening in the front wall (68) and a side hole for installing the inlet fitting (69) for connecting to the incoming water line (70), said fitting being an integral part of the valve (71 ) and float (72) assembly, which is equipped with an internal flexible branch
tube (73) connected to the upper part of a cylindrical element (74) fitted with a threaded cover, constituting a compartment in which a protective screen and support is fitted for the solid block (1) generator of the concentrated cleaning/sanitizing, disinfecting, aromatizing, detergent and emulsionizing product.
The cylindrical element (74) is fitted with a bottom outlet which is connected by a flexible tube (75) to a funnel (76) fixed onto the tubular water flow control rod (77) and which terminates in a thin tubular extension (78) at the inlet to the flush pipe (79) couples to the bottom of cistern (67). At a point level with the bottom of funnel (76) the control rod (77) has a small orifice (80) allowing for a communication of funnel (77) with the channel of the tubular control rod.
The control rod (77) is suspended by a hook (81) fixed to a rocker arm (82) which is actuated by the flushing activating button (83) on the outside of the cistern.
The large inspection opening (68) is closed by a decorative escutcheon (84) which is divided into three parts, the center part (85) being hinged, giving access to the activating button element (83) and therefore to the operation of the flushing system. During flushing, part of the water entering the cistern is diverted through the internal branch tube (73) to the cylindrical device (74) where it enters under pressure forming a turbulence around the solid block (1) from which it extracts a part of its concentrated cleaning/sanitizing, disinfecting, aromatizing, detergent and emulsionizing properties, which in liquid form, flows througli the lower flexible tube (75) to funnel (76) and from there, througli small orifice (80) to the channel in
tubular control rod (77) and subsequently to the toilet bowl (86), firstly with the flusliing water and then trickling for a few moments after completion of the flushing action until the normal stationary water level in the toilet bowl is restored. Another system of application of the generator of the concentrated cleaning/sanitizing product consists (Figures 21 and 22) of a device to be coupled to the flushing system of simple or collective urinals, installed in the flush pipe either externally or set in the wall. It consists of a casing (87) possessing and internal compartment (88) the top of which is closed by a cover (89) and provided with a side opening.
Compartment (88) is connected, by means of orifice (91) with the compartment (92) containing the flushing valve (93) which is accessible through the front opening (94) where the activating button (95) is located. The connecting orifice (91) may or may not be fitted with a regulating screw (96).
Said compartment (92) containing the flushing valve (93) is in turn connected to the flushing water inlet (97) through channel (98).
The flushing water outlet (99) is located in the front part adjacent to channel (98), said outlet connected with compartment (88) through two side orifices (100) one of which is connected to a vent tube (101) which is curved and directed upward, its end close to the upper level of the casing.
Pipe (103) which extends to the urinal, is connected to the flushing water outlet (99) by means of connector (102).
The side opening (90) of the casing (87) is for fitting the support (104) for the solid block (1) generator of the concentrated cleaning/sanitizing disinfecting, aromatizing, detergent and emulsionizing product, which is contained in a protective screen incorporated with said support (104).
When flushing valve (93) is activated by pressing button (95), approximately 10% of the water under pressure enters compartment (88) where the solid block (1) is located, said block thus being subjected to the whirling effect of the water which extracts a necessary part of its composition, and which, in liquid form, flows together with the water and entrained air (drawn in through the vent tube), through orifice (91) and from there through the flush pipe (103) to the simples or collective urinal.
The purpose of all the systems of application of the generator of the concentrated cleaning/sanitizing, disinfecting aromatizing, detergent and emulsionizing product herein described is, therefore, to clean and aromatize sanitary environments, by sanitizing from the flushing valve througli the flush pipe to the toilet bowl and urinal and consequently all the sewer network, averting residues harmful to health from contaminating the sewer main piping system and water supply reservoir, contributing also to the sewage treatment plants and furthermore, removing any possibility of the ambient air being contaminated by disagreeable odors which, in the absence of the present
generator of the sanitizing liquid product, would emanate from the toilet bowls and urinals after use, the product maintaining a pleasant fragrance in the ambient air, said fragrance being extracted together with the cleaning/sanitizing product from the solid block located in a compartment (turbulence chamber) which forms part of each one of the systems of application.
The innovative features of the present generator of the concentrated cleaning/sanitizing, disinfecting, aromatizing, detergent and emulsionizing product and its various systems of application are the results of long and profitable researches, and which undoubtedly satisfy the foreseen purposes, providing users with complete sanitary and environmental cleanliness, before, during and mainly after the use of the toilet bowl and urinal, thus rendering the environment permanently clean and aromatized.
