Abstract

A reusable greeting card is disclosed. The invention comprises individual removable inserts (2, 3, 4) or multiple panel inserts with tear off flaps. The removable inserts are attached to the main greeting card (1) via a strip of non-permanent adhesive or fastener at any suitable area of the card.

Description

REUSABLE GREETING CARD
This invention consists of a greeting card which may be re-used several times.
Usually greeting cards have no inner leaves at all, or only one inner leaf attached to the card with permanent adhesive. In both instances, the cards have only a single use. Should the person writing the card make a mistake the card is virtually rendered useless.
Those problems are overcome by the present invention, which provides several detachable inner leaves allowing both, sender and recipients to reuse the card by simply removing the uppermost inner leaf containing the error (in case of the writer) or the previous message (in case of the recipient).
The detachable inner leaves consist of either individual leaves or a multi-section leaf with one or more perforated flaps for easy tear off.
In the case of individual inner leaves each leaf is attached to the next one and in turn to the main card at any suitable location such as at centrefold (Fig. 1), or at one edge of the card (Fig. lc) using a strip of non-permanent adhesive, (fig. 1), a decorative ribbon (Fig. la), or a fastener (Fig. lb). The fastener may be made of any suitable material, including metal or moulded plastic. To which area of the card the inner leaves are attached is of no importance, as it does not affect the workings of the card. What is important is that the inner leaves are detachable to allow for several uses of the card.
The methodology is as follows:
The first message is written on the uppermost inner leaf (Fig. 1) The card is now ready to be forwarded for the first time. To re-use the card, the top inner leaf is discarded to expose an unused inner leaf. The second message is written on the newly exposed inner leaf and the card is now ready to be forwarded for the second time. The process may now be repeated until all the detachable inner leaves have been used up.
The detachable inner leaves may be of any size. For example, individual inner leaves may be similar in size to the open main card, (Fig. 1) or may consist of a single section, similar in size to the folded card. (Fig. lc.)
In the case of a multi-section detachable inner leaf with perforated flaps, the main section of the detachable inner leaf is attached to the main card at any suitable location such as at centrefold, via a non permanent adhesive strip, a decorative ribbon or a fastener. The fastener may be made of any suitable material including metal or moulded plastic. The detachable inner leaf may have one perforated flap (Fig. 2) at one end -at top or bottom, or right or left; or two perforated flaps (Fig. 3) - at top and bottom or right and left. The flap(s) fold in towards the card.
Alternatively, a multi-section detachable inner leaf may be provided "concertina" style, (Fig. 4) with several perforated flaps at one end of the card.
If only one flap is provided, (fig. 2) the first message is written on the uppermost surface of the folded perforated flap. To re-use the card the flap is detached at the perforation to expose the main part of the inner leaf that is attached to the main card. The second message may be written on the newly exposed main section of the detachable inner leaf. To re-use the card once more, the remaining inner leaf is discarded and a new message written on the card itself.
If two flaps are provided, (fig. 3) the first message is written on the uppermost flap. To reuse the card the used up flap is detached at the perforation to expose the second flap. The second message is written on the remaining folded flap. To reuse the card again the second flap is discarded and the third message is written on the main section of the inner leaf, which is attached to the main card. For a forth use of the card, the remaining portion of the inner leaf is discarded and the message written on the card itself. To assist with understanding the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, which show the different aspects of the invention. In the drawings:
FIGURE 1 shows an example of this invention, with individual removable inner leaves attached to each other and in turn to the main card at left of centrefold via a strip of non-permanent adhesive on the back of each removable inner leaf. The spine of the inner leaf is of course also a suitable location for the adhesive strip.
Figures la. lb. and lc. show different options using individual disposable inner leaves.
Fig. la) shows an example of this invention with individual detachable inner leaves attached to the main card at left of centrefold via a decorative ribbon.
Fig. lb) shows an example of this invention with the detachable inner leaves secured to the main card at left of centrefold via a fastener made of suitable material such as metal or moulded plastic.
Fig. lc) shows an example of this invention with single panel detachable inner leaves secured to the top edge of the main card's right hand side panel via either a strip of non- permanent adhesive on the back of each detachable leaf, or a decorative ribbon, or a fastener.
FIG. 2 shows an example of this invention using a detachable inner leaf with one perforated flap.
FIG. 3 shows an example of this invention using a detachable inner leaf with two perforated flaps.
FIG. 4 shows an example of this invention using a multi-section detachable inner leaf with several perforated flaps "concertina" style.
Referring to Figure 1. It can be seen that detachable inner leaves 2, 3 and 4 are attached to each other and in turn to the main card 1 at left of centrefold via a strip of non-permanent adhesive 5 on the underside of each detachable leaf 2, 3 and 4
Fig. la) Illustrates a semi-closed view of this invention with the detachable inner leaves attached to the main card via a decorative ribbon 6.
Fig. lb) illustrates a semi-closed view of this invention with the detachable inner leaves attached to the main card via a fastener 7. Fig. lc) illustrates an open card view of this invention, with single panel detachable inner leaves 9 attached to the main - card 8 at the top end of the inner leaves. Detachable leaves 9 to be attached to main card 8 by either a strip of non permanent adhesive a decorative ribbon or a fastener 10 of any suitable material.
FIGURE 2 illustrates a double (four panel) inner leaf 14 with one detachable flap 12. A perforation 11 allows easy removal of flap 12. The main surface of the inner leaf 14 is attached to main card 10 either at the spine or at left of the centrefold via a strip of non permanent adhesive, decorative ribbon or fastener 13.
FIGURE 3 illustrates a triple detachable inner leaf 16 (6 panels) with two detachable flaps 18 and 20. The triple detachable inner leaf 16 features a perforation at 17 and 19 for easy tear off of flaps 18 and 20. The main surface of the inner leaf 16 is attached to main card 15 at any suitable surface of the card such as at centrefold via a strip of removable adhesive, decorative ribbon or fastener 21.
FIGURE 4. Multiple section inner leaf 23 featuring a perforation at 24 and 25. Inner leaf 23 is attached to main card 22 at any suitable section of the main card such as the centrefold via a strip of adhesive, decorative ribbon or fastener 26.

Claims

CLAIMSThe claims defining the invention are as follows:
1. A greeting card wherein individual detachable inner leaves or inner leaves with detachable flaps may be discarded together or one at a time, to allow multiple uses of the card.
2. A greeting card as in claim 1 above, where the detachable inner leaves comprise individual leaves or leaves with one or more detachable flaps.
3. A greeting card as in claims 1 and 1 above, which may be re-used several times depending on the number of individual inner leaves or multi-panel detachable flaps therein provided with each particular card.
4. A greeting card as in claim 3, which when re-used to its full potential may help protect the environment by reducing waste.
5. A greeting card as in claims 1 to 3 above which may represent ecological benefits to our environment by greatly reducing the number of trees which may otherwise be chopped down and made into paper to manufacture more single use greeting cards.
6. A greeting card as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
