Abstract

A filter device, especially for filtering of gases like air, is disclosed. It has a frame construction (1, 2), for sealing fixation of an edge portion of a filter medium, and the filter medium consists of at least one pocket (3, 4, 5, 6), with its opening turned towards the frame device, and the pocket shows substantially plane side walls. The filter device is especially characterized in that it is provided, at the frame device, with at least one gas guide means (7, 8) for said gas, designed such that said side walls of the filter medium are subject to a gas flow, substantially uniformly distributed along the extension of the filter medium from the frame device to the bottom of the pocket.

Description

A filter device with air guide
The present invention relates to a filter device, especially for filtering of gases like air, with a frame construction comprising a first frame and preferably a second frame, for sealing fixation of an edge portion of a filter medium to the frame device, the filter medium consisting of at least one pocket, with its opening turned towards the frame device, which pocket shows substantially plane side walls, preferably connected by approximate triangular gable portions.
For instance in the Swedish patent application SE 9701802- 2 there is disclosed a filter device of this type. The filter medium, made from fiber material like polyester, consists of a number of pockets, arranged side by side, with their openings turned to the frame device, which in this case consists of two frames between which the filter medium is fixed sealing. The pockets show substantially plane side walls, connected by approximate triangular gable portions. This filter device, and other ones, also comprising a filter medium in the form of pockets of the art just mentioned, show some drawbacks due to the uneven distribution of the flow of particle containing gas, usually air, that is fed to the filter device. Thus the particles are aggregated, at the outset, at the portion of the pockets, that is turned from the frames, and not until thereupon at the portions of the pockets, that re more close to the frames, especially the side walls, which contain most of the surface of the filter medium. An increased pressure drop over the filter medium arises due to the fact that the side walls of the pockets are pressed to each other such that the gas flow is prevented from passing. As the filter medium is deemed to be exhausted and in demand of replacement by measurement of the pressure drop over itself by a pressure gauge or differential pressure gauge this in reality occurs already when only about half of the surface of the filter medium is covered by particles, which means, that the filter medium has to be replaced before its filter surface has been utilized and that an unnecessary high cost for fan energy arises.
Thus the object of the present invention is to provide a filter device of the type mentioned introductorily, which admits the surface of the filter medium to be completely utilized, such that the cost for fan energy is limited.
According to the invention a filter device according to the invention is characterized in that the filter device is provided, at the frame device, with at least one gas guide means for said gas, designed such that said side walls of the filter medium are subject to a gas flow, substantially uniformly distributed along the extension of the filter medium from the frame device to the bottom of the pocket. In one advantageous embodiment of the filter device the gas guide means consists of two guide rails, provided at each pocket present, extending along the opening of the pocket, with their elongation substantially parallel to the side walls of the pocket, the guide rails being designed curved and such directed, that a gas flow fed is distributed uniformly along the side walls of the pocket from the frame device to the bottom of the pocket.
In one suitable embodiment of the filter device this comprises a first frame and a second frame for sealing fixation of an edge portion of the filter medium between said frames, when the second frame is pressed to the first frame, the guide rails being fixed to the first frame, turnably adjustable around their longitudinal axes. This design admits the guide rails being adjusted such that the gas flow fed is distributed in the desired fashion along the side walls of the pockets.
In order that the filter device according to the invention shall be utilized optimally, at least one fixation element should be provided to fix the mutual position of the bottoms of the pockets perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the guide rails. Otherwise it can occur, that the mutual lateral position of the pockets is changed, subject to the gas flow fed, that is to say they "blow apart". Such fixation elements may be designed in different ways, e g in the form of several fixation wires, provided spaced between said gable portions.
The invention shall now be described more in detail, reference being made to the enclosed drawings, which schematically show an example of an embodiment of a filter device according to the invention.
In the figures: figure 1 shows a view from the feed side of a filter device, that is to say a view along the marks I - 1 in figure 2, figure 2 shows a view towards the cross section II- II in figure 1 , figure 3 shows a view towards a cross section in a filter device with a filter medium in the form of four pockets, with the flow pattern picture of a fresh filter medium, figure 4 shows a view of the object of figure 3, with the flow pattern picture of a partly exhausted, plugged filter medium.
Figure 5 shows a view of the object of figure 3, provided with fixation elements, while figure 6 shows the object of figure 5 in perspective. In the figures a first frame is marked by 1 and a second frame by 2. Between them there is pressed, sealing, the edge portion of a filter medium. The filter medium is designed with four pockets 3,4,5 and 6, which show relatively plane side walls and principally triangle formed gable surfaces. In the first frame there are, at the inlet opening of each pocket, tumably adjustable pairs of guide rails 7 and 8. These consist of longitudinal somewhat curved sheets of metal or plastic, mounted on longitudinal axes 12, which in turn are turnable in bearings at the top and at the foot at the first frame. They can be fastened with the aid of double nuts or other suitable means, in the desired rotation position. In figure 3 there is shown, how the gas flow 9 fed is distributed, according to the arrows 10 at a fresh filter medium and according to the arrows 1 1 at a partly exhausted, that is to say plugged, filter medium. In the figures 5 and 6 the filter device is shown, provided with fixation elements in the form of two lateral wires 12 and 13, provided at different distances from the gable portions of the pockets. The wires are fastened at fixation points, 14,15,16 and 17 at the wire 13 and at the wire 12 at corresponding fixation points. The fixation of the wires to the bottoms of the pockets, that is to say the fixation points, can be achieved e g by welding, if the pockets are manufactured from polymer material. Other methods for fixation are of course also possible. The frame device can be of different types, but shall comprise at least one stationary frame.
