- the tank circuit becomes activated when an initial charge is placed on the AC capacitance from some suitable external or internal power source. This can be accomplished in a number of ways, such as: from a small permanent magnet imbedded in the rotor, or by a small battery (1.5 volts) connected through an inverter to the primary of a step-up transformer, the secondary of which is connected, through suitable switches, to the capacitance.
