Abstract

A cellular system employs a telephone switch having a layered, distributed architecture, where modules for protocol dependent functions are separated from modules for non-protocol dependent functions. The switch also employs an object request broker that controls and facilitates communication between cards operating on object-oriented and non-object-oriented platforms.
