- the fibre material concerned is first fed into a preheater in the form of a container in which the material is preheated with a heating medium, for instance with steam at atmospheric pressure or at a higher pressure.
- the material is passed from the preheater to a refiner in which fibre pulp is produced by defibering the fibre material.
- the defibra- tion is normally performed in a refiner that comprises two mutually opposing refining discs that can be rotated relative to one another and that define therebetween a refining gap in the refining zone.
- the material is fed to the refining zone radially from within and is defibered as it passes through the re- fining gap.
- the object of the present invention is to improve the defibra- tion process and also the production stability of such apparatus. This necessitates transportation of the preheated fibre to the refiner in a controlled and regulated quantity, and from there to a fibre drier through a blow line. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to be able to regulate the pressure and the flow of fibre and steam between the preheater and the refiner. It is also necessary to be able to stabilize the fibre flow after the defibration or pulping process, in order to achieve smoother sizing and drying of the pulp. Another object of the invention is to reduce the amount of energy required by the refining process and to enhance refiner capacity.

- a compression zone 14 is provided between the screw feeder 12 and the screw housing 13, at the outlet of the feeder.
- the stem 15 of the feed screw 12 widens conically towards the outlet at this point.
- a refiner 16 Connected to the outlet of the screw feeder is a refiner 16 that includes a refining disc 17.
- the radially outer part of the refining disc 17 carries in a defibration zone 18 refining elements that coact with fixed refining elements to defiber the fibre material.
- the fibre material entering the defibration zone 18 through the inlet 19 is guided towards said defibration zone by a central guide body 20, which is fixedly connected to the refining disc 17 and thus rotates together with the disc.
- the guide body 20 includes a guide surface 21 that curves radially outwards to- wards the defibration zone 18 of the refining disc 17.
- the guide body 20 has a plane surface 22 adjacent to the end surface of the screw 12 and forms a geometric continuation of the screw stem 15.
- Cleaning wings 24 are firmly mounted on the plane surface 22, in the gap 23 defined between the end surface of the screw 12 and said surface 22.
