Abstract
The invention provides a method and a system for selectively delivering information to callers in an AIN environment. In accordance with the method the service switching point to which is connected the terminal equipment of the caller monitors the condition of the telephone line to detect an AIN trigger, such as an off-hook event among other possibilities. When such event occurs, the service switch point formulates a message query. The query is routed to a service control point via one or more service transfer points, that holds knowledge of the service subscribed by the caller and the information to be displayed for this service. The service control point analyzes the request and assembles the appropriate response. That response is then returned to the service switch point that formats it properly and delivers it to the terminal equipment of the caller. In one embodiment the information delivery is effected during call establishment. In a variant, information is delivered while no call is being attempted.

means for forwarding said message to said central office switch and causing the subscriber name associated with the called party to be displayed on said display screen.
35. In combination: a switch for use in a telephone network, said switch having a service switching point capability for AIN interaction, said switch being capable of exchanging data over a certain data transport path with a certain terminal equipment at which a call session with a remote terminal equipment can be originated; a service control point connected to said switch and capable of exchanging data with said switch; said switch being responsive to a trigger observed on the data transport path and originating at the certain terminal, the trigger being indicative of a request for delivering data to the certain terminal equipment through AIN interaction, for formulating a query request to said service control point; said service control point being responsive to said query request for generating a response message and for transmitting said response message to said switch; said switch being responsive to said response message for delivering to the certain terminal equipment over the certain transport path response data in dependence of a contents of said response message.
36. A combination as defined in claim 35, wherein the response data is visually displayed on the certain terminal equipment.
36
37. A combination as defined in claim 36, wherein said switch delivers the response data during processing of a call session by said switch involving the certain terminal equipment .
38. A combination as defined in claim 36, wherein said switch delivers the response data while no call session involving the certain terminal is being processed by said switch.
39. A combination as defined in claim 37, wherein the response data contains an identifier of a remote terminal equipment involved in the call session processed by said switch.
40. A combination as defined in claim 39, wherein the identifier of a remote terminal equipment involved in the call session processed by said switch is a name of a subscriber associated with the remote terminal equipment .
41. A combination as defined in claim 37, wherein the response data is billing information relative to the call session processed by said switch.
42. A combination as defined in claim 35, wherein the response data includes a set of instructions executable by a processor at the certain terminal equipment.
43. A combination as defined in claim 37, wherein said query request includes data indicative of remote terminal equipment with which a call session is to be
37
established with the certain terminal through said switch.
44. A - combination as defined in claim 43, wherein said service control point includes a database mapping data indicative of remote terminals equipment with corresponding subscriber names, said service control point including means for searching said database to extract from said database the subscriber name associated with the data indicative of the remote terminal equipment in the query request, and to generate the response message that includes data indicative of the subscriber name.
