Abstract

A new and improved primer mix for centerfire cartridges used in small arms ammunition, and a method for igniting same, which is characterized by the use of cupric azide as the initiator, in a mixture combined with carefully selected percentages by weight of nitrocellulose or ground smokeless propellant, an oxidizer, fuel, a frictionator, and a binder.
