Abstract

The innovation under consideration here demonstrates a method whereby a suitable amount of eugenol, harts (or mixture of harts) and zinc oxide allied to a suitable reaction-hastening substance, produces a filling material for dental use with all the properties regarded as desirable in a good filling material. These properties are good adhesion, strength and a suitable setting time.

Description

Dressing material for dental use
The invention under consideration relates to a filling material for use in dental practice. Similar cement-type materials are already in existence and are produced by mixing a suitable oxide with a salifiable substance in liquid form. The two ingredients are mixed in suitable proportions and are ablated on the required location, as a more a less soft paste. This can be applied as a cover for a gingival sore or a tooth cavity. The paste then sets to a cement and forms a strong protecting filler. The fillers which are existing do have the disadvantage that the adhesive property is not sufficient or the strength is not high enough. Attemps has been made to add different kind of materials to try to strengthen the cement. Examples of such materials are Ethoy-bensoic acid which was added to the solution, and aluminium oxide and a polymer which have been added to the powder mixture. A successful version of the latter is the cement, being described in SE-patent No. 9835/61. , where colophony and fibristic terelene has been added to the powder mixture of zinc oxide.. It has however been shown that the fibristic terylene can give cause to sore in the oral cavity and even trigger allergies. Lately it has also being shown that the setting time is not quick enough. We have found that by adding a one of certain materials to the solution, even can speed up the reaction velocity, and can get an acceptable setting time.
Examples of such kind of materials are zinc chloride, zinc oxide, zinc acetate, and calcium chloride. It has also been shown that the binding- strength is not markedly influenced by the removal of the fibristics terylene. The purpose of the innovation under consideration here is to create a material whereby the resulting filler offers considerably improved adhesive properties and strength, and combines this with a suitable setting time. The characteristics of this innovation are stated in the attached patent claims The following experiment has been carried out:
A powder mixture containing of 68g zinc oxide and sieved colophony was mixed into a solution of 60g eugenol 35g of Balsam of Canada, 5g Balsam of Peru and lg zinc chloride. A satisfactory setting time was achieved. If the zinc chloride was change to zinc oxide , zinc acetate or calcium chloride the same result was achieved.
It has been showed that the setting time is influenced of the air humidity and in which container, being used when the powder was steered into the solution and that is why you have to modified the mixture condition between the ingredients. When the temperature influences how the mixture condition should be between the different ingredients

Claims

Claims
1. Filling material for dental use produced by mixing eugenol with a suitable substance to increase the speed of the reaction, with zinc oxide and harts or a harts mixture, whereupon the weight proportions for the fore-mentioned substances, except the substance which increases the reaction speed, are as follows: 0.2-0.9: 0.5-1.5:0.5-1.5.
2. The filling material according to claim 1 is characterised by the fact that the harts or the mixture of harts consists solely of colophony with some balsams, for example Balsam of Canada and Balsam of Peru in suitable proportions.
