Abstract
A one-way valve to be used mainly but not exclusively with the compressors of air-conditioning units. The valve (3) is made of springy metal and covers a bore (4) which acts as an air outlet. Due to the relative great force required for opening the valve the valve-seat is provided with a recess (12) so as to enable the pressure on both sides of the valve to be equalized.
Description
A ONE-WAY VALVE FOR USE WITH COMPRESSORS FOR AIR-CONDITIONING UNITS
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to a flap, one way valve, and more particularly to such a valve to be used mainly, but not exclusively with compressors for air conditioning units. The use of valves according to the invention with car air conditioning units is extremely useful.
It is well known to use flap, one way valves in compressors, for air conditioning units. Such valves comprises a flap or plurality of flaps which cover a bore or a plurality of bores within the valve plate of the compressor.
During operation there is constant pressure in the compressor head. Said flap or flaps are pushed open by the pressure created by the pistons within the compressor. It is quite obvious that the pressure which must be created by the piston in order to open said valve must be higher than the constant pressure with the cylinder head because of the difference of the areas, where pressure is exerted on the cylinder head side and the cylinder side.
Furthermore, the flap which is made of springy metal adds to the force which is required to push open the valve.
OBJECTS OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
It is the object of the present invention to provide an improved valve and plate which does not require such forces and which would enable the compressor to work with a much higher efficiency, i.e., less power will be required for the operation to achieve same cooling capacity.
Furthermore, the valve arrangement according to the invention would diminish the pressure on the compressors piston and hence less stress on all parts which would result in less wear and tear.
Yet a further object is to reduce the various noises created by the compressor to wit mechanical noise, refriginate pulsation noise.
According to the invention there is provided a recess on the valves plate surface under said flap, so as to reduce the pressure differential above and under said flap, thus the power required to move the piston to create the necessary pressure to open said valve will be much less.

Figure 9 illustrates a valve and plate according to the invention including various indications, by way of example.
Figure 10 illustrates, by way of example, the forces created in the prior art.
Figure 11 illustrates, by way of example, the forces created on a valve and plate according to the invention.
Turning first to figure 1 the compressor having a cylinder head 1 which is separated by valve plate 2 from the cylinders 7. Said valve plate is provided with a plurality of flaps 3 according to the number of cylinders. Within valve plate 2 there are provided, in the present embodiment, five bores 4 which are covered by said flaps construction 5. Each tongue (flap) of the valve covers one of said five bores, thus creating one way valve. In order to open the valves the pistons 7 within the compressor must create a pressure higher than the pressure with the cylinder head plus the force of the steel flaps.
In some of the valve plates there have been provided a circular groove 10 (see Figure 3) which thus defines the part which is sealed by the tongue or flap. However, the rest of the flap or tongue is still under the pressure within the cylinder head 1.
According to the invention valve plates 2 would be provided with a recess section 12 (see Figure 8), which would result in the reduction of the pressure difference on both sides of the flap or tongue. Consequently, the force will be
reduced only to overcome the pressure which applied on the narrow circular surface around bore 4.
In Figure 9 there is shown, by way of example, a valve plate and valve in which A refers to the bore 4 in the valve plate 2. B refers to the pressure area. C indicates the engagement surface of the flap. D relates to the approximate center line of the pressure area. E refers to the bending line of the flap.
Figure 10 illustrates, and demonstrates by way of example, the piston pressure required to open the valve as indicated on the left hand side of the valve plate while on the right hand side of the valve plate there appears the calculation of the pressure exceφted on the valve by pressure in the cylinder head as example 15Kg2.
Figure 11 illustrates by way of example, the pressure required to open a valve employing the arrangement according to the invention as indicated on the left hand side while on the right hand side there are indicators which calculates the pressure within the cylinder head.
As can be seen from the above and comparing the two examples it is quite obvious that by employing the new valve arrangement less power is required the benefits of which are quite apparent, as stated in the description.
Claims
1. A one way valve and plate arrangement for compressors where there is provided a recess under the flap of the valve on the valve plate.
2. A one way valve and plate arrangement according to Claim 1 where a plurality of valve and recess are provided on the valve plate.
