Abstract

The invention provides a separator plate for the screening of particulate material comprising an upstream non-perforated segment (3), and at least one downstream screening segment (5) with orifices of a desired size and orientation and with a plurality of upward protruding pins (6) distributed between the orifices. There is also provided a sorting apparatus comprising a vibratory screen constituting the above-described separator plate.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS[received by the International Bureau on 26 April 1998 (26.04.98); original claims 1-4 and 6-10 amended; new claims 11-13 added; remaining claims unchanged (2 pages)]
1. A separator plate for the screening of particulate material comprising two or more screening segments with orifices of a desired size and orientation; the screening segments being aligned in a downstream direction, at least one first kind segment being fitted with a plurality of upward protruding pins distributed between the orifices, and at least one second kind segment not comprising any upward protruding pins; the number of said upward protruding pins on a first kind segment being small relative to the number of the orifices thereof, whereby the flow velocity of said particulate material on a first kind segment is reduced and the time of separation is increased.
2. A separator plate according to Claim 1, wherein first and second kind segments alternate with each other.
3. A separator plate according to Claim 1 or 2, terminating with a second kind segment.
4. A separator plate according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the orifices of different screening segments differ from each other by any of size, shape and orientation.
5. A separator plate according to any one of the preceding claims, being in form of a single integral body.
6. A separator plate according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein each of said segments is a separate unit, with sequential units being suitably connected to each other in a rigid fashion.
7. A separator plate according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein said pins are shaped as cylinders having a base diameter significantly smaller than their height.
8. A separator plate according to any one of the preceding claims, further provided with a non-perforated upstream segment.
9. A separator plate according to Claim 8, wherein said non-perforated upstream segment is transversely corrugated.
10. A separator plate according to Claim 9, wherein said upstream, transversely corrugated segment comprises a plurality of transversal ribs each having a relatively gently sloping upstream side and a steep downstream side. 14
11. A separator plate according to any one of claims 8 to 10, wherein said non-perforated upstream segment is fitted with a plurality of upwards projecting spikes.
12. A separator plate according to any one of claims 8 to 11, wherein said non-perforated upstream segment is followed by a second kind segment.
13. A sorting apparatus of the kind comprising a vibratory screen, characterized in that said vibratory screen is a separator plate according to any one of the preceding claims.
15
STATEMENT UNDER ARTICLE 19
The amended Claim 1 describes a separator plate comprising two different types of screening segments aligned in the downstream direction, where a segment of the first type is fitted with upwardly protruding pins mounted between orifices of any size and orientation, and a segment of the second type comprises only such orifices without any pins. The amended Claim 1 comprises an additional characterizing feature saying that the number of pins is small relative to the number of orifices in the respective segment. The additional feature is mentioned on page 10, lines 20-21 of the originally filed application. The amended Claim 1 also comprises a statement of the obtained effect, namely explains that the claimed design of the separator plate allows a reduction of the flow velocity of the particulate material to be sorted and a corresponding increase in the time of separation on the plate, while the total working area of the screening segments fitted with the pins is not decreased. The mentioned factors together result in a significant improvement of efficacy of the separator plate.
None of the patents cited in the International Search Report describes a screening plate as claimed in the amended Claim 1.
The amended Claim 7 claims the most preferable shape of the pins to be thin cylinders like that shown in Fig. 23a. The thin and high cylindrical pins are maximally suitable for achieving the effect mentioned above in the statement concerning the amended Claim 1.
The amended Claim 12 claims the preferred configuration of the separator plate which is shown in Figs.l, 2a and 2b, i.e. the configuration where the second type screening segment (without pins) follows the upstream non-perforated segment.
The description will be amended in accordance with the amended claims at the stage of Preliminary International Examination.
