Luminous box for taxicabs
The present invention is related to a luminous box s especially adapted for attachment to the roof of taxicabs.
It is in the interest of the taxi driver as well as the passenger to make taxicabs easily recognisable in daylight as well as in the dark. It is further also important to clearly announce whether or not the taxicab is available. This is well known from taxicabs having a roof light or taxi light which is shut off when the taxicab is occupied.
It is further known, such as from GB 1529164, to provide the roof of the taxicab with a luminous display device adapted for disclosing advertisements. Commercial advertisements increasingly can be seen on taxicabs, in many cases painted or in other ways secured to the bodywork. Depending on how this advertisements are secured to the bodywork, however, it is rather time consuming work to change the advertisement in which time the taxicab not being in use. On the other hand the taxicab is forced to display the advertisement until it is removed piece by piece. It is for example often desired to use taxicabs in connections where it is not appropriate to display advertisements .
With the luminous box according to the present invention, means are provided for easy and quick removal of the entire advertisement assembly in cases where this is desired, thereby leaving a taxi light of conventional type. On the other hand a possibility exists very quickly to replace the advertisement cupola with a cupola disclosing another advertisement. These advantages are achieved with the luminous box according to the present invention as described with the features stated in the claims .
The only figure of the drawing discloses an exploded view of the luminous box according to the present invention.
The luminous box according to the present invention comprises principally a taxi light 2 and an advertisement assembly comprising an advertisement cupola 4.
A front base plate 6 is secured to the roof rack 5 on top of a taxicab. A front taxi light 2 is adapted to be secured to the front base plate 6 and comprises at least one light source,
such as a bulb lightening the taxi light 2 from the inside. The taxi light 2 thereby being produced by an opal plastics. As well known lightening sources, such as bulbs in the taxi light 2 are connected to the taximeter inside the taxicab, thereby announcing with a light when the taxi is available.
Furthermore a rear base plate 1 is detachably secured to the front base plate 6 and further also is secured to the rear portion of the roof rack 5. An advertisement cupola 4 made of opal plastics is detachably secured to the rear base plate 1, at least one light source, such as a bulb thereby being provided on the rear base plate 1 thereby illuminating the entire advertisement cupola 4 with advertisements on each side as well as on the top and the rear side.
Preferably the advertisement cupola 4 has a shape which is tapered towards the taxi light 2 thereby enabling reading of the advertisements on the sides also from places in front of the taxicab.
The cupola 4 also may be provided with a rear taxi light 3, disclosing rearwardly the taxi number or other information also given on the front and on the rear of the taxi light 2. In this way the taxi driver's license number or identification number may be seen from the ahead of the taxi on the front of the taxi light 2, from behind the taxi on the rear taxi light 3 inserted in or below the rear portion of the cupola 4 and from behind in cases where the cupola 4 is removed, on the rear side of the taxi light 2.
The light source in respectively the front taxi light
2 and the rear taxi light 3 may be interconnected and operated from inside the taxicab such as by the taximeter. Further also the light source or sources in the cupola 4 are operated from inside the taxicab.
The rear base plate 1 being adapted for quick securement and replacement of another cupola 4. The cupola 4 comprises vertical side walls and a vertical rear wall as well as a top which preferably is convex in such a way that all four sides are well adapted for displaying information and easily can be seen by pedestrians. Additionally the top easily may be seen from above. The information on the cupola 4 given on foil sheets, preferably by silk screen printing, the foils thereby being adapted
to be secured to the four surfaces. Used foils are removed from the four surfaces of the cupola 4 which thereafter is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for new foils. The cupola 4 thereafter is ready for replacement whenever it is decided, depending on the s advertisement conditions.
It is preferred that one taxicab has two cupolas 4 to interchange advertisement whenever necessary. Groups of taxicabs may have a reasonable number of replacement cupolas 4 thereby enabling replacement cupolas to be cleaned and provided with advertisements while other cupolas 4 are in use.
The cupola 4 is easily releasable from the rear base plate 1 and on the other hand also the rear base plate 1 together with the cupola 4, the advertisement assembly, easily may be removed from the roof rack 5 and the taxi light 2. A light bar being arranged between the taxi light 2 and the cupola 4, preferably in the vertical front surface of the cupola 4.
The cupola 4 is activated from the interior of the taxicab by separate switch and the wires from the taxi light 2 as well as from the rear base plate 1 are placed in a way well known from taxicabs.
Advertisements on luminous boxes according to the present invention may be used in a predetermined period of time as replacement of advertisement is very quick and easy.
