Description

High security staple with lock guard casing
The present invention relates to a staple, which is shaped with a lock guard casing attached to it in order to increase picking security of the locking mechanism.
In order to secure the closed position of different opening devices - e.g. opening, hopper, sash or sliding gates, doors, windows, or gratings on buildings, vehicles, cupboards and boxes - a very usual solution is to apply locks. Λ lock is a device consisting of a

with a locking mechanism and a detachable, connected bow forming a closed loop (shackle). I f we release the connection by the locking mechanism, at least one nd of the shackle can be freed and so the loop can be opened. The shackle is typically made of cylindrical rod with a half circle shape continuing in different lengths of straight sections. On elements to be fixed to each other you usually have to place such devices which have apertures on them - hasp and staple - and through which if you pass the shackle and boh it to the body the closing can be realised. Advantage of the padlock is it's wide range usage, it's simplicity , and it's cheapness, but it's disadvantage is on the other hand that it is wideK exposed to forced opening attempts like: striking down, prying apart, sawing off. cutting off Well known solutions for the increase of the security of lock closing mechanisms are to make the shackle and the body of a material which cannot be casih damaged, to use a secure locking mechanism, to strengthen the bolting between the body and the shackle, but all these solutions do not decrease the accessibility of neither the lock, nor the shackle. There are also known solutions inserts and coverings, with which they fill the space between the body and the shackle, or cover it. but the lock and the hasp and staple, which are very often the weakest parts of the closing mechanism, remain accessible. In case we use a usual padlock, the protection of the lock and the hasp is served by the solution of patent US 3 828 5 1 . This describes a welded construction of a cover, guarding the lock, which is fixed by the placement and closing of a lock perpendicular to the plane of the opening, closed with the construction of hasp and staple. The cover covers the lock and the hasp as well, and so is protecting against the prying apart, or the sawing off of the shackle or the hasp. Disadvantages are: the big side surface offered for forced opening attempts due to the position of the lock, the possible slot betw een the opening and the cover w hich can be pried, and the fact, that a part of the staple remains uncovered. Λ further disadvantage is. that during forcing attempts against the cover (striking from the side, screwing, prying) the bearing force attacks the hasp The aim of the invention is to further decrease the e

as\ accessibility and damage of the lock, to protect it against striking and prying, and to diminish the possibility of the damaging of the hasp and the staple while keeping all the advantages of the closings with locks.
The realisation of the aim is based on the recognition, that the shackle, the body, the hasp and the staple can be made inaccessible with the use of a guarding cover, if the cover is fixed while the lock is being closed. Further while opening the guarding cover can be taken off together with the lock, and the protection o\' the cover against prying can be secured by the fitting connection between the hasp and staple and the guarding cover
The invention is therefore a high security staple with a lock guard casing which consists of two staples and a guard case, fixed to each other with a shackle passed through, while the guard casing is fixed with the help of a lock, which is the closing mechanism, and the guard casing covers the fixing elements as well and is characterised by a rim which goes around the staple according to the form of the guard casing and so there is an inside notch into which the guard casing fits and so covers the hasp and staple as well.
An advantageous embodiment of the invention according to the usage of the lock that fits into it is. that the guard casing is closed from four sides and opened from two sides, one opening oi" it has the cross section of the lock body's shape and size, the other opening has the size which enables the turning out of the shackle. Advantageous characteristic of the invention in the aspect of applicability in deformed openings and fixing of the casing is that the guard casing has a nest facing the shackle of the inserted lock and the shackle knocks against and fits into this nest and/or the casing has an other cavity
Figure imgf000005_0001
e the hasps when locked In order to be able to install it onto the case of narrow openings as well, it is advantageous i f one of the staples is longer than the other and a characteristic ratio of the long and short staple should be 2 : 1 .
In order to fix the lock and the guard casing exactly , allowing only minimal movement, it is advantageous, if on the short staple there is a shoulder the outer arch of w hich corresponds to the inside arch of the shackle. In most cases in order to achieve an easy manage and to have an exact fixing of the lock as well as the guard case, allowing a minimal move only, it is adv antageous, if the elements are hasps . fixing the staples via the shackle passed through, and on the shorter staple the surface of the hasp facing to the curved shackle-part is perpendicular to the axle of the shackle, meanwhile on the longer staple the surface of the hasp facing to the closer inside hatch forms a tightening (V-shaped) slot, in which the minimal width equals with the wall thickness of the lock guard casing to be inserted.
In order to have a dimensional accuracy and a pleasing quality , it is advantageous, if the staple with guard casing is made by casting and it is advantageous if it's material is cast steel, which is strong against striking and if required can be fixed by welding as well. For the realisation of a secure and economical fixing it is advantageous, if the staples have borings on them for the joint elements, which secure the fixing, and these borings are placed at least partly on the part of the staple covered w ith the guard casing, and the joint elements should suitably be hexagonal screw s. In order to protect the damage of the fixing it is advantageous, if the fixing screw s on the uncovered (by the guard casing) part of the staple are sunk in nests
The invention is further described in detail with the help of some draw ings of a possible embodiment, where: f ig. 1 . is a perspective view of the staple according to the invention.
Fig. 2 show s the first step of closing of the closing mechanism w ith lock according to the invention.
Fig. 3 show s the second step of closing of the closing mechanism with lock according to the invention.
Fig. 4 is the closing mechanism with lock in closed position.
On the figures w e show the realisation of the invention, where a short staple I and a long staple 2
Figure imgf000006_0001
e one hasp 6 . 7 each. On Fig. I the staples 1 . 2 have a rim 4 which borders the cavity, into which the lock 1. with the guard casing 3 can be placed. The hasps υ . 7 are placed to the edge of this cavity , as the straight part of the shackle 8 will be hooked into them. The shoulder I 1 keeps the shackle 8 of the lock I . in closing position from sliding, the inside notch 5 can also be seen on the inside of the rim 4, into which the side of the guard casing 3 has to fit. Two of the screws 13. which are placed into the borings of the staple 1 . 2 are under the lock F. covered with the guard casing 3. The arch of the rim 12 follows exactly the arch of the lock L placed beside it. and so secures against prying. On Fig. 2 the lock L is placed through the opening 9 of the guard casing 3 sized for the lock body with the shackle 8 up front, and here the shackle 8 is passed through the opening of the guard casing 3 into the hasps 6 . 7. This way the first step of the closing of the elements A and B to be fixed to each other is done. Further the guard casing 3 with the lock L and the key has to be laid onto the staple I . 2 so that it fits into the inside notch 5 formed by the rim 4. this position is shown on Fig 3.. The shackle 8 at this stage lay s already in the nest 10 within the guard casing 3
A fter this to effect closing the shackle 8 has to be napped into the lock body 9. to do so you just have to push the outer end of the lock body 9 ( w here the key is) into the guard casing 3 until it bumps ( depending on the type of the lock you have to turn the key K or not).
The closed position as above is show n on Fig. 4, where the smooth, just slightly rising side wails of the guard casing 3. the narrow slots giv e few . i f any opportunities for damaging. Great advantage of the construction according to the invention is. that the forces caused by forced damaging are taken by the strengthened rim 4. and so neither the lock, nor the hasps can be forced. Further advantage of the solution according to the invention is. that due to the simple construction of fitting surfaces in case of the deformation of the opening to be closed the construction still functions and can still be closed.
