Abstract

A shampoo composition comprising: (a) from about 0.1 % to about 10 % by weight of short chain alkyl sulfate surfactant having a carbon chain length of 10 carbon atoms or less; (b) from about 0.1 % to about 20 % by weight of alkyl ethoxy sulphate surfactant having a chain length in the range of from about 12 to about 22 carbon atoms and having an average degree of ethoxylation of from about 1 to about 6, and mixtures thereof; (c) from about 1 % to about 40 % by weight of auxiliary surfactant selected from anionic surfactant other than the short chain alkyl sulfate of (a), and other than the C12 to C22 alkyl ethoxy sulfate surfactant of (b), nonionic surfactant, amphoteric and cationic surfactants and mixtures thereof; (d) from about 0.01 % to about 10 % by weight of conditioning system comprising an insoluble oil and, optionally fatty alcohol and mixtures thereof; and (e) water; wherein the weight ratio of (b) to (a) is greater than about 3:1 and less than or equal to about 25:1. The shampoo compositions of the invention are valuable for the provision of improved rinsibility, excellent lather volume and cleansing, improved hair conditioning characteristics, such as hair feel, hair shine, hair volume and manageability.
