Description

STEAM APPLIANCE TO IRON AND STERILIZE ARΗCLES OF CLOTHING
This invention relates to a new appliance intended for ironing and sterilizing articles of clothing within a closed receptacle in which steam generated by an electric device coupled to the appliance is recirculated.
As is well known, the process of ironing recently washed clothes is one of the most tiresome and boring tasks of a housewife. This task is usually carried out by using an electrical pressing iron, the base of which is flat which allows it to be rubbed over clothes arranged on a proper ironing board.
Except for some small construction alterations made in the pressing irons which are now provided with a water steam emission system, the process of ironing has been basically the same since the middle of XVII century.
To get rid of such a daily and tiresome task and to allow the housewife to have time to carry out more delightful and agreeable activities, the inventor has developed the appliance which is herein described which uses water steam obtained by means of an electrical heater.
So, the object of this invention is an appliance provided with said heater, the steam which is obtained therefrom being conveyed through a tube into a metal container in which the articles of clothing to be ironed have been previously arranged.
Such a container has a tilting door provided with proper sealing, being provided inside with an assembly of holders which hold hangers to hang up the clothes. The base of such a receptacle has a condensed water collecting tray and the fluid is conveyed back to the heater in which it turns back into the gaseous state and is injected into the receptacle through a proper tube.
The excess steam comes out through a side opening, while the door is provided with a clear viewfinder to allow the clothes to be inspected.
The heater is actuated by a timing device which is controlled by a sliding or rotating bottom allowing the time of system actuation to be controlled.
The water to be used to generate steam is supplied by a tap which is connected to the hydraulic system of the building and which remains constantly open and connected to the vaporizer by a hose, such a vaporizer controlling automatically the entrance of water into the system.
Although it has been primarily conceived for home use, the system may be applied to big-sized appliances intended for use in hospitals, hotels, clubs and the like.
For a better understanding of the invention, the drawings which are described below and make part hereof, will illustrate the invention in its major details, in which:
Figure 1 is a side schematic view of the new appliance;
Figure 2 is a front view of the assembly;
Figure 3 is a side sectional view of the receptacle wherein the articles of clothing are arranged.
According to the above figures and to their details, the invention comprises an equipment which is composed of a receptacle (1) being provided inside with holders to support hangers (2) to which the articles of clothing are hung up, such a receptacle having a front tilting door (3) properly sealed and equipped with a clear viewfinder (4), the base (5) of this receptacle being provided with a condensed water collecting tray (6), while a container (7) which is arranged nearby an electric heater (8) actuated by a timer (9) adjusted by means of a bottom (10), has therein provided a tube (11) which connects it to the inside of the receptacle (1), such a receptacle having one or more openings (12) for the excess steam to come out.
The steam recirculation makes the articles of clothing to be completely sterilized in addition to make them to become smooth as if they had been submitted to the usual procedure of smoothing by using an electric pressing iron.
Fragrant products may be added to the water of the container (7) in order to scent the articles of clothing being ironed.
In addition to reduce the electric power consumption costs, this appliance even allows the housewife to have more time available to carry out other activities of her interest, providing her a more comfortable life.
Obviously other several equipment similar to that described herein may be conceived with the same basic conception, but with some changes in the aspects related to shape, dimensions, materials and other secondary details.
Nevertheless such assemblies will never deviate from the spirit and scope of this invention.
