Abstract

This invention concerns a vehicle navigation device which stores navigation destinations in memory from which the navigation data can be called up in a pre-set sequence to simplify obtaining of the navigation data and be displayed on a display device. With this invention, the average search time for a navigation destination being called up is markedly reduced by using a counter and memory to store the number of requests of the navigation destinations and by using a sorting device to sort the sequence in relation to the number of requests determined.

Description

NavigationsVorrichtung"für ein FahrzeugNavigation device " for a vehicle
The invention relates to a navigation device for a vehicle with navigation destinations that can be stored in a memory and that can be called up from the memory in a predetermined sequence to simplify the receipt of navigation information and can be displayed on a display device.
DieseSuch navigation devices are known and are increasingly used in passenger cars. In the case of a known device of this type, which is sold under the name Travel Pilot, personal navigation destinations of particular interest to the user can be stored in a memory. The list of personal navigation destinations can then be called up on the navigation device. The stored navigation destinations then appear on a display device. Since the number of stored navigation targets is generally so large that the navigation targets cannot all be shown at the same time, the stored navigation targets are scrolled on a display. In known techniques, the stored navigation destinations can be displayed in the order of entry or according to certain sorting criteria. Known sorting criteria are an alphabetical order or the determination of the order based on the distance from the location of the vehicle. This
Sorting criteria mean that the selection of the currently desired navigation destination from the stored navigation destinations is relatively complicated because the currently desired navigation destination appears on the display device relatively late.
The problem on which the invention is based is, as a rule, to enable faster access to the stored navigation destinations.
Starting from this problem, a navigation device of the type mentioned at the outset is characterized according to the invention by a counter and a memory for the number of calls to the stored navigation destinations and by a sorting device for sorting the sequence depending on the number of calls determined.
According to the invention, the number of calls to the stored navigation destinations is determined and stored by the navigation device. A sorting device, which will be formed regularly by a microprocessor, then carries out a re-sorting of the navigation destinations depending on the determined number of calls. From this it follows that the most frequently selected navigation destinations appear first on the display device, so that the average search time for calling up the navigation destinations on the display device is significantly reduced.
The sorting device can be switched on, that is to say the sorting routine can be carried out manually, in particular by calling the sorting routine on a menu of the Navigation device. However, it is also conceivable to have the sorting routine run automatically at regular intervals or in certain processes, for example when the device is switched on.
In the accompanying drawing, the principle of sorting according to the invention is schematically explained using a simple example. The drawing shows a list 1 in which destinations Z (A, B, C, D) are arranged alphabetically and appear in this order on a display device of the navigation device. The internal usage counter NZ according to the invention registers the number of calls to the various destinations, as noted in addition to the destinations in list 1.
In der Reihenfolge der Häufigkeit εchließen εich in der Liεte 2 die Ziele D, A und B an.After the sorting routine has been carried out, a list 2 is created, sorted in the order of the destinations according to the frequency of the calls registered by the internal usage counter. As a result, target C now appears in the first place, since it has been called up most frequently, namely 22 times. In order of frequency, targets D, A and B follow in list 2.
By far the most frequently accessed destination C appears when calling up the personally entered navigation destinations and can be selected in a very short time in order to receive driving instructions from the navigation device for reaching destination C, which may also take into account the current traffic situation.
