Description

"A PORTABLE, INTERACTIVE DEVICE WITH A MICROPROCESSOR FOR ORIENTATION, LOCATION, DESCRIPTION AND VISUALIZATION OF TOURISTIC AND INFORMATION PLACES AND SERVICES"
The present invention concerns an interactive device of such dimensions and weight to make it portable, and that allows orientation, location, description and visualization of touristic and information places and services, comprising a microprocessor .
The aim of the present invention is to supply a portable means, mainly for tourists and in general for everyone, for orientation and temporary stays in towns, regions etc, comprising touristic informations and the ones relating to the most important services, like hospitals, chemist's shops and especially transports, centres of cultural interest like theatres, cinemas, churches and some trade categories .
In the prior art known there seems not to exist any device having the same functions, made to be portable .
The aim set forth is reached by means of the interactive, portable device according to the present invention , that allows the user to visualize maps , photograps and information cards of interesting places divided into categories , comprising a microprocessor and a plurali- y of memory elements that may be taken of f and replaced , containing the informations concerning towns , regions and homogeneous groups of places ad/or s ervices ( covering the whole nat iona l territory ) .
The informations are available for the user in cards , are provided with general and/or local maps ( and poss ibly with photographs ) that can be seen on the screen .
The possibility of connecting the device according to the present invention to a common television or to a personal computer allows to read the maps , the photographs and the cards even at one ' s home .
Fix and encumbering installations of a greater weight for hotels , touristic agencies , vehicles and similar are natural extensions of the device according to the present invention .
The advantages of said device are evident , and it will be described more in detail hereinbelow supported by the drawings in which an embodiment thereof is shown.
Figure 1 shows a functional block scheme of a portable, interactive device with a microprocessor, for orientation, location, description and visualization of touristic and information places and services .
Figure 2 shows a front view of a portable, interactive device.
Figure 3 shows a structural block scheme.
The enclosed figures show a portable, interactive device according to the present invention, for orientation, location, description and visualization of touristic and information places and services, comprising a microprocessor in a portable means 1, in which cards are inserted for: - visualizing the map of an area around an element like a street, a place, a museum, a church, a bus or any other interesting place or service, or comprising a plurality of elements grouped in categories and these in classes; - pointing out, on a visualized map, another element or all elements relating to any requested category.
According to the present invention, about means 1 a plurality of function keys are provided for the direct access to the categories of greater interest and the general procedures for the access to any requested category.
These elements are furthermore provided with information cards of technical and trade usefulness, while the visualization of possible photographs is mainly to be obtained - as already mentioned - on television or personal computer screens.
The realization on said means 1 of two screens or of one screen divided into parts, allows the contemporary vision of maps and texts.
Relating to the block scheme of "igure 1 and to the elements provided in the p .-rtable means 1 shown in figure 2, the device according to the present invention comprises:
- the power key 2 that allows the visualization on a screen 3 the whole map of a town, while the display 4 shows the contents of the categories, pushing key 5;
- a key 6 for choosing one of the categories, by placing it on the selection line on display 4;
- a key 7 for visualizing the list or thecontents of the elements of the selected category, marked by a number, possibly visible on the map on which the element of the requested category is shown, and by the name;
- a plurality of keys 8 that directly perform said selection of particular categories;
- a key 9 for contemporarily visualizing all elements of the selected category on a screen 3 as, in detail, the numbers of the elements visualized on the map, that may be of the whole town or of an already selected portion, so that the user may choose the interesting element by means of said slider 6 that makes slide said list upwards or downwards, and once the slider has been placed on the selected line and the display key 7 has been pushed, the information card relating to the selected element can be seen on display 4;
- a local zoom key 10, for visualizing on screen 3 a determined portion of said map around the selected target, alternative to the pointing G
out on the map of the found element, that may be performed by means of said key 9;
- a full zoom key 11 for visualizing the general map, for the possibility of maps on intermediate scales;
- two keys 12, 13 for cancelling visualized elements respectively from screen 3 and from display 4;
- a key 15 for resetting the programme.
For what concerns the block scheme shown in figure 3, once the key 2 has been pushed, the card- keyboard driver 20 operates the gate that is received by a processor 21 that, by means of the address-bus A bus, reads the datum, i.e. what kind of key has been pushed; said microprocessor 21 elaborates the datum and, by means of control-bus C bus and of address-bus A bus, takes instructions from a memory prom 22, by means of data-bus D bus. As it depends on the instructions of the memory prom 22, microprocessor 21 gets interfaced (by means of C-bus, A-bus and D-bus) with the driver 23 of the external records-memory (geographic memory), and furthermore feeds, by means of C-bus, A-bus and D-bus, the driver of the video card 24 where, e.g., the list of hotels is visualized. The functioning of the device according to the present invention may be described as follows: once the device has been started by pushing the key 2 on/off, on the screen 3 it shows a map of the whole town, while display 4 visualizes the contents of the categories.
Now the user may choose one of the categories (streets, museums, churches, monuments, hotels, etc.), placing one of such categories on the selection line of the display with the slider 6; when the display key 7 is pushed, the contents 16 of the elements of the selected category (e.g. museums) appears.
For some categories 17 the device provides particular keys who directly perform this selection.
The elements (with the exception of streets, places, ... that form a particular category) are marked by a number, visible on the map (if requested) and by the name. The number locates the element (e.g. the museum) inside the category.
At the same time, the user may visualize, by means of a screen key 9, all elements of the selected category on screen 3; as already mentioned, the numbers relating to the elements will be shown. The map may show the whole town or may show an already selected portion 19 thereof.
Now the user must choose the element, e.g. the museum he is interested in, by means of the slider (that makes the list move upwards or downwards); once the element is placed on the selecting line and the display key 7 has been pushed, on the display 4 the information card relating to the selected element may be seen (e.g. for a museum: the opening hours, possible hours for a guided visit, the price of the ticket, etc.).
At the same time, the found element may be pointed out onto te map (with the number) by means of the key screen 9. In alternative, a determined portion of the map may be visualized on the screen, around the selected element, by means of the local zoom key 10; for returning onto the general map, it is sufficient to push the full zoom key 11.
Once the required information has been obtained, the user may wish further informations (e.g. regarding restaurants, local transits) to be visualized on that part of selected map shown on the screen; therefore, leaving the visualized elements on the local map 10 - that in any case may be cleaned from the visualized elements by means of key clear screen 12 - by means of key "contents" 5 the display will show, again, the contents of the categories . Following above described procedure, related to a new category, e.g. restaurants, the elements of the new category may be visualized, or the element selected inside said category, on that part of the map shown on the screen and thus the user may realize, e.g., the distance between the selected elements from the point where he is; by means of the display, once the numbers pointed out from the other categories already shown on the map have been seen, the combined element may be selected so as to obtain the information card (e.g. for the restaurants: the closing day, the average price, possible touristic menus, specialities).
Photographs may be combined to the elements, and they may be seen by means of key "photo" 14, once the element has been selected on the display according to the conventional procedure. In any moment the user, by means of the key "reset" 15, may reset the device and obtain the annulment of all that is visualized on the screen and on the display and thus start again with the selection of a new category.
For what concerns the memory prom 22, it contains all software programs that allow the microprocessor 21 to manage the whole device.
Such prom memory and the combined software form the firmware, distinguishing this product from other databanks.
All drivers 20, 23, 24 contain memory and logical circuits for the interaction with the microprocessor 21.
The external recording may be on optical disks as well as on interchangeable magnetic cards, according to the quantity of requested bytes.
