Description
"A PROTECTION APPLIED TO A LOCK CYLINDER AND KEY FOR APPLICATION THEREOF"
This invention relates to a new casing for application in lock cylinders in order to avoid access thereto by outside agents, such as drills, crowbars, screwdrivers and others, since access to doorlock is limited, being performed by means of a key which is specially designed for this purpose.
The doorlocks currently in use incorporate cylinders provided with a front opening in the shape of the key outline so as to allow access therein and to activate the cylinder secret enabling the doorlock to open. Such assemblies are easy of access by criminals who by using proper tools would violate the cylinder so as to break it and have access into the house or to violate the doorlock secret in order to open it with no damage.
The tools commonly used are crowbars, screwdrivers and other implements, Upon introduction of the so called tetrakeys or the like, in which the key is provided with more than a series of two orthogonal sets of secrets, the application of crowbars became very difficult; then the opening of such doorlocks started to be made by means of a drill that by actuating on the cylinder will allow access to the secret enabling the doorlock to be opened. The scoundrels may also use "Philips" type wrenches, the shape of which is nearly similar to that of the tetrakeys so as to force the rotation of the cylinder core piece in order to destroy it and have access to the inside thereof.
Another manner of forced entry, irrespective of the type of wrench used, consists in twisting the cylinder by using a pipe wrench in order to break it and have access to the inside thereof.
The Patent PI 9505885-0 discloses a solution so as to avoid that the cylinder be broken through twisting, by introducing a flange which is attached to the doorlock by means of two screws which are external to the cylinder, which increases the torsional strenght of the cylinder assembly and greatly makes it difficult to be broken.
Said patent also disclosed a casing which is external to the
2 cylinder, being of the free turn type, allowing access of the key into a proper opening and, by turning the key and the casing, one would succeed in opening the doorlock.
The advantage of such casing made of strong material was to make the access difficult, either by using tools to have access to the front opening, or by using drilling tools in the vicinities of the cylinder.
Nevertheless such casing had two features which made the use thereof very difficult and restricted its application, i.e., it could only be applied in circular section cylinders or cylinders provided with a fitting for such a purpose, and required intricate means which would allow it to turn together with the key, i.e., the casing would turn around the cylinder, requiring adequate means to be constructed to allow turn to occur and to prevent removal of casing at the same time.
Although well known for those skilled in the art, such means resulted in a more intricate and high cost piece.
The object of this invention consists in providing a protection in the form of a casing, plate, disk or even a protection stamped on the doorlock wall, which can envelop or cover thoroughly the doorlock cylinder, being stationary relative to this and being provided with an opening, with the same shape of the key section for application thereof, which, due to its new features may turn, without necessarily having the cylinder casing or protection to turn, taking into account that the protection casing or the protections are stationary and will not turn together with the key.
Another object of this invention consists in providing a structural reinforcement which is resistant to torsional stresses, which will be applied nearby the protection casing, which will significantly increase the degree of inviolability of doorlock cylinders.
The invention basically incorporates three novel aspects, such as a stationary casing or cover for the cylinder, which may be provided with a small inner recess which may allow the key to turn, such a key having a novel groove allowing it to turn relative to said casing or protection and a structural reinforcement.
To be better understood this patent will be described with respect to the enclosed drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a doorlock provided with a cylinder with the new casing and structural reinforcement; Figure 2 is an exploded view of a triangular section doorlock cylinder which is applied to a doorlock, being also equipped with a set of screws and antitorsional flange and with a structural reinforcement;
Figure 3 is a view of another model of elongated section cylinder with its respective casing and a structural reinforcement; Figure 4 is a view of another model of elongated section cylinder and provided with a lower projection, known as European type cylinder with its respective casing and with a structural reinforcement;
Figure 5 is a partially sectional side view of the assemblies of cylinders and doorlocks seen in figures 1 and 2, showing the flange directly fastened to the casing by means of proper screws;
Figure 6 shows a detail of the application of the key to a cylinder provided with a protection casing;
Figure 7 is a schematic view of a doorlock provided on one side with a recessed protection disk and on the other side with a non-recessed protection disk, being incorporated to the wall of said doorlock and not enveloping the cylinder;
Figure 8 is a partially sectional view of the doorlock of figure 7 and an enlarged detail of the protection assembly;
Figure 9 is a schematic view of the doorlock provided with the cylinder protection in the form of stamped area on the side of said doorlock;
Figure 10 is a partially sectional view of the doorlock of Figure 9 and an enlarged detail of the protection assembly;
Figure 11 is a perspective view of the cylinder and protection disk for application upon the face thereof; Figure 12 is a perspective view of a substantially conical casing applied to a cylinder assembly.
Figure 13 is a view of the key provided with a new groove.
According to the above drawings and the details thereof, the new protection assembly comprises a protection (1 ) for the cylinder (2) provided with said inner recess protection (3), and the protection (1 ) has an opening (4) with the same shape as that of the key section (5), and said key has a surrounding groove (6) which actuates precisely in the opening region (4), allowing it to rotate relative to the cylinder (2) and the protection (1 ), due to the recess (3).
The protection casing (7) comprises a body which is externally of a cylindrical shape, being provided internally with an opening (8) with the same shape of the cylinder (2), allowing the proper insertion of one piece into another, and the casing (7) is made of a strong properly treated material.
The casing (7) has in its inner edges (9) holes (10) for the screw to be applied (11 ) which is associated in flange (12).
A constructive alternative provides for the protection means (13) to be applied to the doorlock body (14), in the area of the cylinder (2), such a protection being properly treated in order to obtain a mechanical strength which is greater than that of the doorlock body (14) and having therein a proper recess (3) into which the key (5) is applied.
When the doorlock (14) wall has a proper clearance of the cylinder, a disk-shaped protection (16) may be applied onto the doorlock side surface.
The cylinder protection (2) may be made in the doorlock side (14) itself, being adequately stamped (16) to shape the recess (3).
Another alternative includes a conical protecting cover (19), equipped with a recess (3) and an opening (4) for the key (5), its inner side being provided with a container to receive the cylinder (20).
Finally, the protection may be formed by a disk (17) with a recess (3) which may be coupled directly on a cylinder (2), being of varied shape and multiple-purpose type, such as for example for vehicle locks, special purpose locks, public telephone, the fastening of which may be provided in a number of ways.
A structural reinforcing means is provided in the casing (1) in
the form of prismatical shoulders (20), being axially provided with holes(10) for application of a screw (11 ) associated in flange (12), which also incorporate in its inner face corresponding prismatical shoulders (21 ), such shoulders (20,21 ) having faceted surfaces and being simultaneously and respectively inserted in an axial and close manner in prismatic contour cutouts (22) incorporated in the faces of the doorlock box (14), but not having a rotational movement relative to such a box.
The shoulders (20,21 ) being axially inserted in the cutouts (13) of the doorlock box walls (14) and simultaneously trespassed by the screws (11) for the doorlock fastening and assembly, near the doorlock box body (14), will ensure a high mechanical strength against torsion in the cylinder region (2).
By means of this patent, the composition of a protection provided with a proper recess (3) allows the key (5) to access its inner portion, and the rotation of the key and therefore of the cylinder (2) is made possible by making a groove (6) into the key (5).
By applying the casing or protection means to the cylinder, the access to the cylinder will be made very difficult by using instruments other than the key itself, impeding the building to be invaded by burglars.
