Abstract

A photographic wallet has a first cover part (17) which includes a pocket or pockets (15) to hold photographic negatives (8) and/or prints. The first cover part (17) is foldably connected about a fold line (18) to a second cover part comprising a front cover (2) and a rear cover (3). An integral booklet (7) is bound between the cover parts (2, 3). The booklet (7) has a plurality of pages (19) containing photographic information, advertising material, and tables (11, 12) for recordal of photographic data. Preferably, the booklet (7) is detachable from the first cover part (17), e.g. by means of perforations along the fold line (18). The wallet may also include a plurality of transparent sleeves for receiving and displaying photographic prints.

A PHOTOGRAPHIC WALLET

Technical Field

This invention relates to a photographic wallet.

Background Art

Photographic wallets are widely used to store photographs and their negatives. The wallets are usually made up of a pocket for the photographs and a smaller pocket for negatives.

There is a problem in the field of photography because many users of cameras lack photographic information, for example, information on how photographs should be taken under different conditions. Many books are available on photography but large numbers of camera users do not buy such books. When such a camera user receives negatives and prints from a film processing centre, the user often experiences disappointment with the results of some of the photographs but the user lacks information to explain how the photographs should have been taken. The user therefore starts to use a fresh film without learning from the experience of the previous processed film.

Many products are available for camera users, including accessories for cameras, various qualities and speeds of film, etc. Such products can be introduced to the public by advertising, for example in photography magazines. However, many camera users do not buy such magazines. There is therefore a problem in bringing advertising material for such products into the hands of non-specialist camera users.

If camera users are to learn from the results of their photographic experiences, they should record data concerning the conditions under which each photograph has been taken. There is a need for a product which will provide non-specialist photographers with a regular supply of tables on which such data can conveniently be recorded.

Any or all of these problems may be solved according to the present invention, by providing a photographic wallet having storage facilities for photographs and their negatives combined with an integral booklet containing a plurality of pages of printed matter.

Disclosure of Invention

According to the invention there is provided a photographic wallet comprising at least a first cover part which includes a pocket or pockets or the like adapted to hold photographic negatives and optionally prints, and a second cover part foldably connected to the first cover part, characterized in that the wallet has an integral booklet therein containing a plurality of pages of printed matter.

Suitably, the printed matter includes photographic information and/or tables for recordal of photographic data and/or advertising material .

Preferably, the booklet is detachable from the first cover part, e.g. at perforations.

In a first embodiment, the first cover part is foldably connected to the second cover part at a spine, the booklet being bound to the spine between the second cover part and the first cover part. In a second embodiment, the second cover part comprises a front cover part foldably connected to a rear cover part at a spine and the first cover part is foldably connected to the rear cover part at a fold line, the booklet being bound to the spine between the front cover part and the rear cover part.

Preferably in the second embodiment, the first cover part is foldable at the fold line between an open and a closed position such that in the closed position the first cover part rests against the internal surface of the rear cover part and both the first cover part and the booklet are contained between the front cover part and the rear cover part.

According to a further feature, the wallet may also have therein a plurality of transparent leaves or sleeves in the form of a booklet, each leaf or sleeve being adapted to receive and display a photographic print.

In this case, the wallet may comprise a printed booklet part, a photograph storage part and a negative storage part, the three parts being foldably connected together but being detachable from each other.

In one aspect the present application concerns a photographic wallet comprising at least a first cover part which includes a pocket or pockets or the like adapted to hold photographic negatives and prints and a second cover part foldably connected to the first cover part, the second cover part being in the form of a booklet containing a plurality of leaves.

In a second aspect the present application concerns a photographic wallet comprising at least a first cover part which is foldably connected to a second cover part wherein the first cover part has a pocket adapted to receive photographic negatives and the wallet has bound therein a plurality of transparent leaves in the form of a booklet each leaf being adapted to receive and display a photographic print. Modes for Carrying Out the Invention

Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of a wallet 1 of the invention. The wallet 1 is rectangular in shape and is made up of a front cover part 2 and a rear cover part 3. The front and rear cover parts 2, 3 are formed from a single sheet of material folded to define a spine 4 which separates the front cover part 2 from the rear cover part 3. The front cover part 2 has printed matter indicated by the reference numeral 5 on its outer surface. The printed matter 5 usually consists of advertising material. The rear cover part 3 has a pocket 6 formed on its internal surface.

Figure 2 more clearly illustrates the inside of the wallet 1. As shown in Figure 2, the pocket 6 is formed on the internal surface of the rear cover part 3 and extends inwards from the outer edge of the rear cover part 3. The pocket is open at the side so that negatives 8 can be stored in the pocket 6. Alternatively, the pocket 6 may be open at its top, it may also accommodate photographic prints 22 as shown in broken lines in Figure 2.

A booklet 7 is mounted on the internal surface of the spine 4 and is bound thereto. The booklet 7 is made up of a number of pages on which bibliographic, advertising or other printed material is printed. The pages can pivot about the axis defined by the spine 4 so that they may be turned in the usual manner. Typically, the pages 19 contain printed marketing and advertising material and photographic information such as technical information on cameras, camera equipment, films and photography techniques. For example, the pages may include information on camera and lens care and maintenance, exposure and exposure estimates, film storage, depth of field, perspective, composition, use of filters, and the like. As shown particularly in Figure 2, the booklet 7 may also contain data entry tables 11, arranged for example in columnar form, in which information may be recorded on photographs taken. For example, the table 11 is arranged in a number of columns and rows in which photographic data can be recorded e.g. data relating to a frame, lens, exposure mode, exposure aperture and shutter, filter, and comments relating to the location or time a photograph is taken.

A secondary data Table 12 also printed on a page 19 can be used for example to record data relating to the camera used, the film used, the date and the approximate ISO. Other photographic information may be included as appropriate. Figures 3 to 5 show a second embodiment of the invention in closed, first open and second open dispositions respectively. In this embodiment the wallet 1 is made up of a front cover part 2 and a rear cover part 3 which meet at a spine 4 as previously described. The wallet 1 is rectangular in shape and also has printed matter 5 on the outer surface of the front cover part 2. A booklet 7 is bound to the spine 4 between the front cover part 2 and the rear cover part 3 as previously described. However, in the present embodiment, a third part 17 is foldably attached to the rear cover part 3 as described more fully below.

Figure 3 shows the wallet 1 in a partly closed disposition with the front cover part 2 and rear cover part 3 slightly separated to show the booklet 7. The third folding part 17 is attached to the rear cover part 3 at a fold 18. In the closed disposition the folding part 17 lies against the surface of the rear cover part 3.

Figure 4 shows the wallet in a first open disposition with the front cover part 2 and the rear cover part 3 spread apart. The booklet 7 is placed against the front cover part 2 while the folding part 17 is visible. The booklet 7 is made up of a number of pages 19 on which printed matter is printed. This printed matter may include photographic information as previously described in relation to the embodiment of Figure 2. For example, information on how photographs should be taken under different conditions. Figure 4 shows a table 11 printed on a page 19. A secondary data table 12 is also printed on the page 19.

The folding part 17 is separated from the rear cover part 3 by the fold 18 formed along a line defined by the outer edge of the rear cover part 3 so that the folding part 17 can rest against the internal surface of the rear cover part 3. Therefore, the folding part 17 can be opened and closed along the axis defined by the outer edge of the rear cover part 3. The folding part 17 is shown in a closed disposition in Figure 4. In this position, additional printed matter such as matter relating to the manner in which photographs should be taken may be visible on one surface of the folding part 17. This printed matter is indicated by the reference numeral 13.

Figure 5 shows the photographic wallet 1 of Figure 4 in the second open disposition i.e. with the front cover part 2 and the booklet 7 in the same disposition but with the folding part 17 opened along the fold 18. As shown in the drawing, the internal surface of the rear cover part 3 is also printed with a table 11 while the internal surface of the folding part 17 is formed with a pocket 15 on its internal surface. The dimensions of the pocket 15 are equivalent to approximately half those of the folding part 17. The pocket 15 has a side opening 21 facing the fold 18. Negatives 8 and/or photographs can be stored in the side pocket 15.

Figures 3 to 5 show the manner in which the photographic wallet of the second embodiment may be used. As shown in Figure 3, the folding part 17 can be folded along the fold 18 to rest against the internal surface of the rear cover part 3 in the closed disposition. Therefore, the wallet 1 can be folded along the spine 4 and fold 18 to "form a compact unit with the folding part 17 and the booklet 7 contained between the front cover part 2 and the rear cover part 3. As shown in Figure 4, in order to review the material contained on the leaves 19 of the booklet 7 the wallet 1 is moved to the second open disposition such that the leaves 19 of the booklet 7 can be turned as previously described. Furthermore, the printed matter 13 on the surface of the folding part 17 may be read or viewed.

As shown in Figure 5, in the third open disposition the secondary rear cover 17 is opened along its fold 18 to expose a further table 11 on the internal surface of the rear cover part 3 and the side opening pocket 15. Therefore, negatives or photographs can be retrieved or stored in the side opening pocket 15 which can be folded along the fold 18 against the rear cover part 3 proper when not in use. This arrangement facilitates compact and secure storage of photographs and negatives in the folding part whilst allowing the user to view matter printed on the leaves 19. The wallet 1 is manufactured such that the booklet 7 is detachable from the cover part which has the pocket or pockets adapted to hold photographic negatives and prints i.e. the folding part 17. The rear cover part 3 is provided with perforations along the fold 18 parallel to the spine 4 such that the booklet 7 together with the front cover part 2 and the rear cover part 3 intact may be detached from the folding part 17 which can still be used for photographic storage.

In an alternative embodiment, the booklet 7 can also be made up of a mixture of transparent sleeves and printed matter on pages such that photographs may be stored and viewed in the transparent sleeves as described below.

A third embodiment of the invention having a mixture of transparent sleeves and printed matter is hereinafter described with reference to Figure 6 of the accompanying drawings. This is a three-part wallet containing a printed booklet part A, a photograph storage part B and a negative storage part C. The printed booklet part A comprises a booklet 7 having a plurality of pages 19, similar to that described above in relation to Figures 1 to 5 and like reference numerals denote like parts. The booklet 7 has a cover part 3 which is connected by a fold 23 to a first cover part 25 of the photograph storage part B. The photograph storage part B is made up of a number of individual transparent sleeves 16 bound between the first cover part 25 and a second cover part 24. The sleeves 16 can pivot about the axis defined by a spine 4a so that they may be turned in the usual manner. The sleeves 16 have smaller dimensions than the cover parts 25, 24 so that the cover parts 25, 24 serve to protect the contents of the sleeves 16. The sleeves 16 are open at one end to facilitate insertion and removal of photographs 22. Photographs stored in the sleeves 16 can be observed in the sleeves 16 without touching the photographs. The negative storage part C comprises a folding part 17 similar to that described above in relation to Figures 3 to 5 and like reference numerals denote like parts. However, in this embodiment, the fold line 23 preferably is perforated such that the part B can be detached from the part A along the perforations 23, while the folding part 17 can be detached along the perforated fold line 18 so that 3 separate parts are obtained i.e. a booklet A of printed matter, a wallet B having sleeves for photographs, and a storage part C having a pocket for negatives.

In an alternative embodiment the cover part 24 of Figure 6 is omitted and the folding part 17 is foldably connected to the cover part 25 at the spine 4a. In this embodiment, there are four cover parts 2, 3, 25 and 17, with the folding part 17 which includes the pocket 15 functioning as the back cover of the wallet. The printed booklet part A is detachable from the remainder of the wallet while the photograph storage part and the negative storage part contained within the covers 25, 17 are generally retained as one unit.

Figure 7 shows a form of wallet similar to that of Figure 2 but with a booklet 7 made up of a number of individual transparent sleeves 16 as described above with reference to Figure 6.

In an alternative embodiment the booklet 7 in any of the above-described embodiments can be made up of a mixture of transparent sleeves and printed matter on pages such that photographs may be stored and viewed as previously described. Alternatively or in addition to any of the above embodiments, the folding part 17 may include two pockets, for example, a large pocket for storage of prints and in folding engagement therewith a smaller pocket for storage of negatives. The smaller pocket may de detachable from the larger pocket.

Industrial Applicability

Suitably, the photographic wallet of the invention may be made by or supplied to the film processing industry and given to customers without charge with processed films.

Claims

1. A photographic wallet comprising at least a first cover part (3, 17) which includes a pocket or pockets (6, 15) or the like adapted to hold photographic negatives and optionally prints, and a second cover part (2) foldably connected to the first cover part, characterized in that the wallet (1) has an integral booklet (7) therein containing a plurality of pages (19) of printed matter.

2. A photographic wallet as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the printed matter includes photographic information and/or tables for recordal of photographic data and/or advertising material.

3. A photographic wallet as claimed in Claim 1 characterized in that the booklet (7) is detachable from the first cover part (17).

4. A photographic wallet as claimed in Claim 2 characterized in that the booklet (7) can be detached at perforations.

5. A photographic wallet as claimed in Claim 1 characterized in that the first cover part (3) is foldably connected to the second cover part (2) at a spine (4), the booklet (7) being bound to the spine (4) between the second cover part (2) and the first cover part (3).

6. A photograhic wallet as claimed in Claim 1 characterized in that the second cover part comprises a front cover part (2) foldably connected to a rear cover part (3) at a spine (4) and the first cover part (17) is foldably connected to the rear cover part (3) at a fold line (18), the booklet (7) being bound to the spine (4) between the front cover part (2) and the rear cover part (3).

7. A photographic wallet as claimed in Claim 6 characterized in that the first cover part (17) is foldable at the fold line (18) between an open and a closed position such that in the closed position the first cover part (17) rests against the internal surface of the rear cover part (3) and both the first cover part (17) and the booklet (7) are contained between the front cover part (2) and the rear cover part (3) .

8. A photographic wallet as claimed in Claim 1 characterized in that the wallet (1) also has therein a plurality of transparent leaves or sleeves (16) in the form of a booklet, each leaf or sleeve being adapted to receive and display a photographic print.

9. A photographic wallet as claimed in Claim 8 characterized in that the wallet comprises a printed booklet part (A), a photograph storage part (B) and a negative storage part (C) , the three parts being foldably connected together but being detachable from each other.
