Abstract

A suspension hook for curtains is adapted to be put on a curtain rod to be slideable thereon. It is made of a steel wire and it has a rear leg bent to form a U-formed hook (16, 17) and a front leg that has a wide lower portion that is formed as a spiral (18) and is adjacent the U-formed hook. When the U-formed hook is in two tunnels in a plaeating tape of a curtain, the spiral flattens the curtain fold formed by the U-formed hook and makes the curtain fall more decoratively than it would otherwise do.

Description

A SUSPENSION HOOK FOR CURTAINS

This invention relates to a suspension hook for curtains comprised ofa bent metal wire that comprises a front leg and a rear leg and between the legs a substantially semicircular portion which is adapted to be put onto a curtain rod to be slideable thereon. The rear leg has a U-formed lower portion that forms a hook that is directed sideways and is adapted to be inserted in a tunnel in a pleating tape ofa curtain.

It is an object of the invention to provide a suspension hook of this kind which makes the curtain fall beautifully and itself makes a decoration.

The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings that show an embodiment ofthe invention.

Figure 1 is a view ofa suspension hook according to the invention, seen towards its front.

Figure 2 is a side view ofthe same suspension hook.

The suspension hook shown in the Figures consists of a metal wire; for example a steel wire, that is bent so that it forms two legs 1 1,12 and a substantially semicircular portion 13 between the legs. The portion 13 is somewhat more than semicircular so that the two legs 1 1,12 will be somewhat directed towards each other as seen from the side as in Figure 2. The suspension hook is adapted to be suspended on a curtain rod with circular cross section and a radius that is somewhat smaller than the radius ofthe semicircular portion 13. The leg 12 will then be the front leg and the leg 11 the rear leg behind the curtain. The suspension hook will be slideable on the curtain rod.

The lower part ofthe rear leg 1 1 is bent into a U in a plane peφendicular to the semicircular portion 13 so that it forms a hook comprised of two wire parts 16,17. This U-formed portion is at an angle to the upper part ofthe leg 1 1 so that it is directed substantially towards the centre ofthe semicircular portion 13. As a result, the U-formed portion 16,17 will be substantially vertical, as seen from the side, when

As seen towards the front as in Figure 1, the front leg 12 is at an angle to the rear leg 1 1 so that it is directed towards the centre ofthe U- formed portion 16,17 ofthe rear leg 1 1. As a result, the front leg 12 will be substantially vertical as seen towards its front as in Figure 1.

The lower portion ofthe front leg 12 is bent as a spiral to form a flat portion 18. This flat portion is at an angle to the upper portion ofthe leg 12 so that this flat portion 18 is parallel with the U-formed portion 16,17 ofthe rear leg 1 1.

The suspension hook is primarily intended for curtains that have pleating tape sewn to their upper hem. Such pleating tape has vertical tunnels intended to receive hooks. When such a curtain is to be suspended, the end 17 of the rear leg 1 1 is first inserted from above in a tunnel and the tunnel is moved through the bend and onto the part 16. The end 17 is then inserted from below into another tunnel so that the curtain will form a fold between the parts 16 and 17. One pulls this fold forward so that it is flattened by the flat portion 18. In this way one mounts a plurality of suspension hooks in the curtain and puts them on the curtain rod. Because the flat portions 18 hold the folds ofthe curtain, the curtain will fall more decoratively than otherwise and the flat portions 18 will also be decorations. The curtain rod and the entire front legs ofthe suspension hooks will thus be visible as decorative elements. The flat portion 18 ofa hook is defined by the outer turn of the wire, and the inner turns ofthe spiral are merely a decorative element. Instead of being a spiral, the flattening portion 18 can have another form and other decorative elements can be applied to it.

Claims

1. A suspension hook for curtains comprised substantially of a bent metal wire that comprises a front leg (12) and a rear legs (1 1) and between the legs a substantially semicircular part (13) which is adapted to be put onto a curtain rod, and the rear leg (11) has a U-formed lower portion (16,17) that forms a hook that is directed sideways and is adapted to be inserted in a tunnel in a pleating tape ofa characterised in that the front leg (12) extends down to the U-formed lower portion (16,17) ofthe rear leg

(1 1) and forms a wide portion (18) for flattening the curtain fold that is formed when the two parts (16,17) of the U-formed portion are in tunnels in the pleating tape.

2. A suspension hook according to claim 1, characterised in that the wide portion (16,17) ofthe front leg (12) is in the form ofa spiral.

3. A suspension hook according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the front leg

(12) is adjacent the centre ofthe U-formed portion (16,17) ofthe rear leg (11).

4. A suspension hook according to any one ofthe preceding claims, characterised in that the U-formed portion (16,17) ofthe rear leg (1 1 ) has, when seen from the side, a bend so that its U-formed portion is directed towards the centre of said semicircular part (13).
