Abstract
Bei RAID-Systeme bildenden Festplatten-Speichersystemen mit gekoppelten Festplatten und zusätzlichen Ersatzplatten, sind letztere nicht wie sogenannte 'Hot Spare' ständig in Betrieb, sondern sie werden in vorgegebenen Zeitabständen jeweils vorübergehend gestartet, um die Funktionsfähigkeit zu überprüfen. Im Fehlerfall stehen dann weniger abgenutzte Festplatten zur Verfügung, was die Betriebssicherheit erhöht.
