Definitions

  • the game of golf requires that during the swinging of the golf club the hands of the user be maintained in firm contact with the grip of the golf club.
  • the grip of the golf club was traditionally made of leather, but in modern times has been made primarily of a rubber compound.
  • golfers typically wear a golf glove on one hand made of a soft pliable material, such as leather or soft cloth.
  • the glove is usually not removed by the golfer during the play of round of golf, although some golfers do remove the glove when putting.
  • the golfer's hand not covered by the glove is exposed to the ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun, while the hand covered by a glove is not so exposed.
  • UV ultraviolet
  • the use of the above flexible material also permits the golf glove to fit a wide range of hand sizes, so that only three sizes, small, medium and large, need be available for the vast majority of golfers. Further, a glove having a bottom portion next to the palm made of a leather or conventional cloth and the top or upper portion next to the back of the hand made from the spandex/nylon material will not lose its shape when used, as would be the case with a one piece leather or cloth glove.
  • the glove of the present invention consists of an upper portion that covers the back of the hand, and a lower portion that covers the palm of the hand.
  • the glove has finger portions and extends toward and covers a portion of the wrist.
  • At least a part of the upper portion of the glove is made of a material that permits the UV rays of the sun to pass through the upper portion permitting the hand of the wearer of the glove to be exposed to the UV rays of the sun, permitting the back of the hand to become tanned.

  • Such a construction of golf glove is well known and will not be discussed in further detail.
  • golf gloves can be used, such as golf gloves having snaps or other closure means. Additionally, some golf gloves have an elastic portion proximate the wrist 28 to hold the glove 10 snugly on the hand.
  • the lower portion 14 of the glove 10 is made of conventional leather or cloth material.
  • the upper portion 12 of the glove 10 is made of a material, such as spandex, that permits at least a portion of the UV rays of the sun to pass through the material. While in the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the upper layer 12 of the glove 10 can cover the side and back of the hand of the wearer, it is recognized that more or less of the glove can be made of the above material, depending on how much of the hand is to be exposed to the UV rays of the sun.
  • the fabric of the upper portion 12 is 30% 140 denier/4 filament spandex, a polyurethane-based elastomer, such as sold under the trademark LYCRA, yarn and 70% 30 denier nylon yarn. Due to the elastic nature of the yarn, the fabric has a unique highly stretchable characteristic with memory to recover and return to is original shape and form.
  • This material allows penetration of UV rays equivalent to wearing a sun screen lotion having an SPF of 10. It is substantially opaque to the eye when worn against the skin. It allows skin to breath and perspiration to evaporate and unlike the fully leather gloves, it dries fast and does not become deformed after use.
  • the bottom portion 14 of the glove 10 is made of leather or synthetic material. While the percentages of the spandex and nylon have been described in the preferred embodiment, it is possible to use other percentages and combinations of materials without departing from the concept of the present invention which permits the UV rays of the sun to pass through a material that has an opaque appearance to the eye, but which permits tanning of the hand when worn.
