Abstract

The invention relates to a combined parking brake cylinder (8) and service brake cylinder (19) with slack adjuster (17) for railway vehicles. It comprises a service brake piston (4, 4') and a parking brake piston (9, 9'), applied by a spring (10) and released by pressurisation of the parking brake cylinder (8). A bush (11) engages the parking brake piston (9, 9') by a non-self-locking thread and transmits braking forces therefrom to the service brake piston (4, 4') and to a thrust rod (6). A locking rod (14) engages an internal toothing on the bush (11), fixing it rotationally. To release the parking brake without pressurising the parking brake cylinder (8), the locking rod (14) is disengaged from the internal toothing of the bush (11) thus permitting rotation of the bush (11) and axial movement of the parking brake piston (9, 9') without force transmission to the service brake piston (4, 4') and the thrust rod (6).

Description

COMBINED BRAKE CYLINDER ADJUSTER
Technical Field
This invention comes from a brake field for various types of vehicles especially railway vehicles. It is used in accordance with an adequate system of rods for stopping the vehicle wheel turning in motion that is i.e. working with fluid insertion in the corresponding cylinder chamber and performing parking braking on vehicle which standstill, with discharging of the fluid from the other cylinder. Background Art
The technical problem solved by this cylinder is the uniting of two obligated brakes on the vehicles, i.e. working or automatic brake and parking brake.
The above brake are obligated and they act on the same disc place or directly on the wheel. The solving of the parking and working brake must be outlined to enable independent function of the one related to the other brake and according to the needs they act simultaneously. The invention is designed to fulfill the requirement and to physically unite the two devices for stopping in one entity, through the locking, mechanism. Conceptually the innovation differs from the others on the world market and it is adapted for easily changing the already existing devices applied.
Disclosure of Invention
The design solution of the combined cylinder adjuster ( fig 1 ) according to this innovations generally consists of three independent devices: Brake cylinder adjuster for working braking ( fig 2 ). Brake cylinder with spring ( fig 3 ) and traveling locking mechanism ( fig 4 ). All three cylinders are united in one device fixed with bolts ( 1 ) placed on the cylinder external side and external bush ( 16 ). The innovation building - in the brake rods is performed assembling the same through the openings ( 2 ) and ( 3 ). Activation of the working ( automatic ) brake is accomplished with fluid insertion in the space between the piston ( 4 ) and the cylinder bottom ( 5 ) activating the piston ( 4 ) which moves the adjuster ( 17 ) through the piston lever ( 4' ), due to this the braking process is performed. During discharge of the fluid in the atmosphere the released spring ( 7 ) returns the piston ( 4 ) to previous state together with the pre-mentioned positions. Readiness for activation of the brake cylinder with spring is provided with fluid insertion in the space between the cylinder bottom ( 5 ) and the piston ( 9 ) during which the spring ( 10 ) is tamped in the space between the piston ( 9 ) and the housing ( 8 ). Under the influence of the fluid the piston ( 9 ) screws the threaded bush with internal toothing ( 11 ) into the both bearings ( 12 and 13 ) from the locking mechanism
( fig.3 ) during which the threaded bush with internal toolhing is locked with the locking rod ( 14 ) placed on the traveling bush ( 15 ) which is moved in the cylinder ( 8 ) through internally grooved bush ( 16 ). The braking process is achieved by discharging the fluid in the atmosphere resulting in the piston ( 9 ) moving by the piston lever ( 9' ), the piston together with the threaded piston lever ( 9' ) and the traveling locking mechanism ( fig 3 ) activates the control rod ( 6 ) through the adjuster ( 17 ). In some necessary cases during the brake slacking without insertion of fluid under pressure, between the plate ( 5 ) and the piston ( 9 ), the traveling locking mechanism is activate through the rod ( 18 ) and the locking rod ( 14 ) comes out from the connection with the threaded bush ( 11 ), the same is screwed into the bearings ( 12 and 13 ) and moves towards the housing ( 8 ), the piston ( 9 ) returns to the starting position on the cylinder ( 5 ) bottom. Due to this the process of brake slacking i.e. /that is returning of control rod ( 6 ) to its previous position is achieved. In normal use, the brake cylinder for parking brake executes slacking of the control lever ( 6 ) by the insertion of fluid in the chamber between the cylinder bottom ( 5 ) and the piston ( 9 ) resulting in the return of the above mentioned position to the starting position.
